Any F1 race sounds wildly optimistic. I don't believe in his comeback given the injuries he suffered.

Unfortunately I agree. He may run a test along the way (and even that will be a PR stunt)... but I can't see any scenario were he'll start another GP.

Kubica's F1 racing days are sadly over. All of these press releases serve two purposes:
    1) Renault Lotus Russia something something will not just buy him out of the contract and tune him out permanently
    2) His manager can have more time to figure out an alternative revenue stream like a TV gig or special consultant for the team.

He might be in an F1 car at Brazil, but not racing. Probably for Friday run..

The doctors of injured Renault driver Robert Kubica expect the Pole to be fit enough to drive in a Formula 1 simulator by the end of next month. Insiders close to Kubica, who suffered a partially severed hand and multiple fractures in a rally accident in February , have admitted his progress slowed dramatically over the summer but the mood in his camp is more upbeat as he prepares for his eighth and final operation. Rather than rush a recovery to push for some pipe dream to return back to F1, Kubica should really take his time to work back into some other form of motorsport like endurance racing or rallying after a few years. His days in F1 are over. Rushing into a simulator and into a full fledged F1 test will probably jeopardize any chances of recovery.

I hope everythings works well for Kubi.
The grid is incomplete without his determination.

What an amazing set of statements from the doc. Rarely does doc take a definitive stance, but this one has. Either he's incredibly dumb and wants to trash his own career, or Kubi has a much better chance than many people have given him of driving again in F1. If he can get there it will be one of the greatest sporting comebacks of all time.

I wouldn't get too crazy over this as Robert still has a mountain to climb. His right leg remains in what is basically an immobilizer and he has little to no muscle definition in that leg. He needs extremely intense physical therapy on that leg to get it really going again which won't take place until after he is out of the knee-brace/immobilizer contraption. His arm, hand, and nerves are the best progress as he has pretty much full flexibility and movement there. I really hope it works out for him and I am following what he is up to very closely. He is a great racer

He's done as a top driver. It's a shame, but he's yesterday's news now. He might return in a HRT or maybe a test role, but he's missed the chance to be a champ.

I believe it when I see it. Until then it is an Italian doctor making big statements.

Even if he returns to a F1 seat, his chances are over. Massa had a much less severe injury and lost a lot of his former speed since his return. And that's just the psychological side of things. I'm pretty sure Kubica would deal in addition to that with real tangible issues such as lost sensitivity, dexterity and strength.

    By all odds you're right.
But I've seen some amazing recoveries and given his determination I can't write him off yet.

Should he really come back and win races the Polish Nation will have a second Saint to celebrate.

After all we had one "miracle healing" in recent F1 history...

Plenty of drivers have come back from horrendous physical injury's and went on to be arguably better then they before hand, Mika Häkkinen is a good example.

Kubica and Massa's situation's are not really comparable. Frontal lobe brain injury's like what Massa suffered are well known for impairing judgement and spacial awareness. Kubica will have no such problems, his are purely to do with his physical lack of strength, movement and conditioning which he will need to drive the car.

I think I found the reason for why Kubica's doctor made these bold announcements:

Renault has given Kubica a deadline of November to make the decision whether he'll drive for them in 2012.

Notice how the Doctor mentioned that Kubica will sit in a F1 between November to January? They're playing for more time.

With the doctor's announcement Kubica basically keeps a foot in the door.

I read a report today which talks about the fact that Kubica continues to postpone any tests: He was supposed to be testing in the simulator, but says he isn't ready.

Renault continues to extend the deadline for ultimately re-signing him, trying to give him all the time he needs, but it doesn't look like this is going to be happening. Their latest deadline was October 15 and now they extended to the end of the month.

I maintain my belief that Kubica's F1 career is over.

As much as we might want it to be otherwise the odds were long against it from the start.

I hate to say it but Kubica is done. Those injuries are too severe to come back to in such a short time.
