Joe, excellent photo of Alboreto and his 288, I had seen other pictures of his car, including one of him driving it and shots of the interior. Very tragic what happened to Michele while testing the R8. He was a true gentleman.

Not counting Evos, I have 282; and while I'm assured that's wrong, I have nothing contradicting my information.

John, while I'm not sure why you think I should be your bill collector, I was curious why someone would be so upset over $750 if what you say is accurate, so I tracked down some of the parties involved. You mention you sold "psycho" your F40 waterpump 8 years ago. The last F40 water pump I purchased, and I've purchased a few, was 11 years ago from Woodside Electrical & Mechanical for $812.82 (including sales tax). (I actually went back into my records to check.) None of the F40 water pumps I purchased were for my 288 GTO. According to Psycho, he did purchase a F40 water pump from you and (according to him) he paid Jack Perkins, in cash, for the water pump. He claims he paid Jack twice because you were complaining you didn't get paid. Maybe yes, maybe no. However, from the people I've met, there are great stories around Jack hooking up with some Goth biker chick and he took off owing many people a lot of money. If you see him, Psycho is still owed $10K. There is also a story of what happened to your F40 after a modification, but I have no idea if it really happened and I certainly will not claim to have pictures of the vehicle. I'm not sure where you got the idea that my 288 GTO needed a F40 water pump to solve cooling problems and/or something about an incident after a track event, but I think you may be confusing two GTOs. My car has never had a problem from tracking the car. However, there is another GTO that did and Psycho fixed that car. It had major engine, body and paint issues from its use/abuse. It since has been re-habilitated and has scored platinum in Concours events. That car was sold by a dealer and is currently in California, but it is not my GTO. I'm still not sure if a F40 water pump fits on a GTO, but it maybe someone was thinking of trying one out on that car.
I should be so lucky that I was only burned for under $1K. I have stories of dealing with people in this business that have routinely take you for $40K here, several hundred thousand there. They probably have been advising the finance industry how to fleece the public.
    Steve

You needed to get the car going quickly and there were no pumps available at the time. I had a stock of pumps that I had purchased from Rutlands and was willing to supply one that I delivered overnight. That was 8 years ago! I never got paid for the part and "335's" claimed that he had a check on his desk from you. The last time I went to collect the check he had a seizure and was unable to talk. What happened to the check? I dont think that I need to be supplying free parts to affluent Ferrari owners. My pump is in your car and I havent been paid. You say that your car is trouble free but I saw it after the fire. From what I remember the entire car was repainted and the extensive fire damage reparied. I even have pictures. The apparent overheating was cured with my pump. Please pay up. Its really just the principle anymore. I would also accept a new OEM pump. Happy motoring !

    What a strange, sad saga!

Is anyone else, besides the parties involved, really interested in this?

No, I wish they wouldn't ruin the OP's thread and take it elsewhere.

Steve: dont worry about it. Some people cant tell one GTO from another if they had to do so to save their lives. Why do Ferraris attract so many scumbags? They deserve what they have coming to them, and its always more than they bargained for.

I'm in favor of this. I don't understand why this is being addressed here anyway if it happened 8 years ago.

Fortunately, they also attract lots of good guys, like the members of FCA/RMR, Dave Helms, Birdman, Rifledriver . . . and, of course, you.

And there are many more. Maybe we should start a thread: All the great guys who work on, sell, and own Ferraris.

I saw the last 288GTO on the line when I was in Maranello and it had a piece of white tape on the chassis with a large "272" written in black.............

When was this picture taken. I assume it must have been 1986?

Indeed. Was wondering last week whether it was the 'usual' Galleria car as per the license plate holder. My guess was right: it isn't!

Sort of a technical question as I am digging a little further into the validity of Ferrari's enging BHP claims, which during the 80s and moving forward were becoming far more honest than before.

Does anyone know what a 288GTO's put down at the wheels? A similarly powered stock 360 usually makes in the neighborhood of 300-320 at the wheels. The F40s are of course very close with Ferrari's bhp claims, but I have never heard any sort of figure regarding 288s.

I have no idea how accurate this info is but Speed Lab in Illinois tested this 288 GTO. According to them: "Using pump gas and only 12-13 psi of boost pressure, the 2.8 liter twin turbo V8 now runs clean, with a broad torque curve making 414hp at the tire".
