I've wanted to get some new wheels for my car and deep down I wanted to get a set of the original factory modular Speedlines. Every set I found was either way overpriced (for me anyway) or chrome. I had decided that chrome would be fine but really wanted to have them in just silver. I began to think they never existed since I had never seen them but I finally stumbled across a set accidentally. I bought them the second I saw them knowing just how rare they really are but assumed they would likely need to be refinished. Well, they just arrived and they were in great shape! My journey is now complete!!!

I think they must have been from a former track or race car because the tires are the old Goodrich TA R1's which I haven't seen in years. The guy I bought them from said that he was given them from an older lady with too much money and said sell them. It was meant to be!

Now I just can't wait to get them mounted up!

    I hate you! :)

Those are my favorite all time Ferrari wheel. I know many people find the 3-piece modular look Old School, but to me, it's timeless.

Enjoy them. I you ever hear of another NON-CHROME set, please let me know.

    EDIT

I just came across a very rare, little-known Ferrari, Spa Notice which stated that these wheels should ONLY be mounted on GTB/GTS models. As you own a Spider and I'm such a nice guy, I'll take them off your hands.

    Well done Monte.

Can anyone confirm if these wheels were ever a factory option?

I don't know why are you guy wining a lot about the "chrome" ones...you know they CAN be re-coated in anything you want..silver, gunmetal, black, etc etc... or even carbon fiber!

Maybe I don't know much history about them, but they for some reason don't appeal to me :(

    Great find.

Now if only you can locate a pair of factory 355 CF back sport seats in tan leather for me! I think I've seen more unicorns than I've ever seen those hardshell sport seats for sale. LOL

I'm still not so sure. What years? Does anyone have any proof, or should we just use Internet rumor and add this to the list of 355 "facts" ;)

I know 2 cars, a '96 and a '98 GTS that both came with those wheels from the factory... the other similarities between the 2 cars is that they are both Nero and 6-speeds.
Those are 2 of only 4 GTS's in Vegas that I know of, or have ever seen in person... the other 2 are both '99 GTS F1's, both are Giallo... and both have the ever common magnesium 5 spokes.

I never claimed to know the stats or years they were available... your question was "Can anyone confirm if these wheels were ever a factory option? "... the answer is absolutely YES, and that's no "internet rumor".

Here's one of them that recently sold, I know both the original owner, and the guy who just sold it. http://www.motorcarslv.com/web/vehicle_photos/1182062/#03

How do you know they came from the factory in that configuration? Do you have a copy of the window sticker? I'm not trying to be argumentative, I just personally don't think those wheels were ever offered from the factory.
A dealer add on perhaps? More likely IMHO.

No need to get so defensive buddy. I'm just trying to find out the facts. I know quite a bit about the 355, and have never been able to get the facts on this issue.

Just because there happen to be 2 GTS that you "know" which have these wheels, doesn't mean that it was actually an option, from the factory at least. Or, I could just be wrong about this, and in that case, I will admit it and move on with new 355 knowledge.

I'm with L.C., I've never seen these wheels offered from the factory - I've never even seen pictures of a car with these wheels at the factory or on official factory documentation. Just because people say it's so, doesn't make it so; a little proof goes a long way.

Thanks Carbon. My thoughts exactly. I have never seen these as an option from Ferrari, never seen a period picture of a 355 with them on pre-delivery, and I don't ever recall seeing them as an option on the 355 brochure. I still would love to be proven wrong! :)

Anyway, congrats on the wheels Monte. They will look great on your car! We miss having you around the area.

Likewise Luke! You've got a great group back in DC.

This is going to cause me to go on another quest. This time to figure out if these were a factory option or not.
