Hi some observations and questions, anyone have similar experience, is this normal?

    - the quick reference guide says the F1 gearbox "is always in the manual mode when the vehicle is started". Mine seems to start/default in auto mode. The owners manual doesn't actually say anything about this...

    - when upshifting on part throttle and medium revs, I notice the revs will actually jump up maybe a few hundred rpm the moment the upshift paddle is pulled.... The best way i can think of describing this is comparing to a 6speed manual transmission, and not synchronising the clutch disengagement with lifting of the gas pedal. (lifting off gas a fraction too late). Everything seems fine on full throttle or higher rpm changes, and the gas cut off is much better synchronized with the upshift. Anyone experience this? In the part throttle case is it possible that I am upshifting when the transmission is least expecting it?

    - noticed a problem once yesterday in auto mode when driving gently I suddenly felt there was some clutch slippage/transmission hesitation and there was a warning beep but no warning light. The slippage/transmission hesitation continued when I deactivated auto mode...I thought I was going to be stranded as the problem was clear, and continued for about 5 to 10 minutes. Since then it's been fine. I just had a clutch and bearing change btw.

    - when car is cold and car is moving I hear an intermittent high pitch beep sound...not like the sound when you open the door, more an electronic beeping noise..it's not a mechanical sound, and it is definitely audible, but not when car is warmed up...can't find a way to describe it better.

Really appreciate any help/views anyone here may have! Thanks

    >When I have excessive slippage (usually on a cold engine) I shut it down (Ign OFF) and restart. This always corrects the issue for me. Its a 1/20 start type issue but has happened less often now that it is a DD.

    >Have never heard this one. Is it the same beep as when you remove the seatbelt while still in motion? Maybe you can shoot a video of this one?

Trent the slippage problem sorted itself out after a few minutes. Just weird it happened midway thru a drive and in gear rather than moving off.

On the beeping noise it won't show up on video. Very soft and drowned out by engine noise. Not the seatbelt noise for sure.

Thanks. Car is in workshop getting slippage diagnosed. Hasn't happened apart from that one time though so I doubt I'll find out the cause.

My 2005 430 always started in manual mode. Did you try to press the auto button to see if it takes auto mode off? If this keeps up I would take it in and have a look at it. Call the dealer and ask for the service dept, then speak to a mechanic (if you can), not the service manager. Tell him your problem.

I think this is related to the 430 being in auto when you start it up.

My scud starts up in auto but my 2005 430 did not. I am not sure if the newer 430s default to auto? maybe some other chatter could chime in. What year is yours?

My 05 always starts in manual. I think I've only had it in auto twice and only for 20 secs to show someone that it has auto. As to the high pitched soft beep, I occasionally hear it as well, but very rarely. Maybe three times since I bought the car a month ago. Haven't been able to link it to anything. I think I heard it at low cruising speeds (low rpm in 1st and 2nd gear). Perhaps it has to do with the clutch engaging. Haven't heard it lately though as I have become more acclimated to the sounds and nuances of the car.

Yes pressing auto takes it off auto mode. But it defaults to auto at startup every time. Mine is an 06...

Yes it's a soft beep, easily drowned out by the engine once past 2500revs. Can't really tell where it's from even...almost like from behind me in the engine compartment area!

This might sound weird but I seem to remember someone writing about something like this on the Porsche forum...I think it had to do with a weak batter? Anyone heard of this?

Thanks Ninetyc2, weird or not I think it's definitely worth checking out! Key thing is i don't think it is a warning beep of any sort as the sound is too subtle...but it's there nonetheless. Battery due for change at next svc will keep my ears open and give an update.
