interesting what Hammond said about it. Couldnt he have just turned off the traction control off???
Am I the only one that feels Top Gear didn't do the Aventador justice? The segment didn't feel nearly as special as the ones debuting past Lambo models (original Murcié, LP670, original Gallardo). :S Really expected more...
Well, I agree with you! But I thought Jeremy sort of chided Hammond at the end for not liking the Avetador more! Hammond's only issue was that the Aventador was not as unpredictable and frightening at the limits as previous Lambo V12s! This is a good thing in my book! I remember seeing the review of the LP640 in which after Jeremy's review Hammond said something to the effect that the Murci was too risky to drive anywhere close to its limits because the penalty for exceeding its limits by 1% was "death" - looks like you cannot win either way with Hammond! The performance of the Aventador is impressve and stands on its own merits! As a side note, The McLaren MP4-12C (which was even faster than the Aventador) had done so badly in so many comparisons against the 458 Italia, they supposedly spent nearly a day "setting up" their car for the Top Speed track to get the numbJrs they did...
The review was a bit unsatisfying and I did expect a bit more but nevertheless, in my book, this is the first lamborghini to actually have top notch performance to back it up its pantomime stealth fighter looks. The old V12 Lambos just had the looks and power but were never really great around corners compared to this one. IMO the only reason the MP4-12C made a better lap time than the aventador and the Ferrari was that the McLaren was produced for and on the Top Gear test track therefore it had to be faster around the track
It seems they no longer test supercars or even sportscars outside of their track. Which is too bad. It gets tiring to see them go sideways and do a 1/4 mile every week.
Coming from someone who almost got killed in the high speed run some years ago? or perhaps Hammond was no where near the limits.
I think Clarkson should have done the review instead. Nevertheless, this review only makes me want the Aventador more. I was actually very surprised at the shear speed of the thing, I really didn't think it would come even close to the Mclaren lap times wise, I figured low 18s, high 17s at best. The sound of the thing is amazing and it doesn't have one of those seamless videogame gearboxes the 458, FF, MP4-12C and others are fitted with. Sure it's no Manual gearbox, but atleast this has some emotion with it. Going by most reviews, a Mclaren with the options most people want they're going to be spending close to and some more than £220K. I have no idea why anyone would want to buy one of those when the list of the Aventador is 'only' £201K. Options one would really want is the transparent engine cover, and perhaps the carbon package. I reckon they're about the same price then. Yes, I'll take the much, much more exciting over the Mclaren and 458 any day of the week. Just as fast round the track, much more emotion.

I saw the Aventador in matte black today at midwest auto group in Columbus. Pretty wicked. Sticker was $440k iirc. Looked like: http://www.google.com/imgres?q=lamborghini+aventador+matte+black&um=1&hl=en&sa=N&tbm=isch&tbnid=AX4DftgZRfye5M:&imgrefurl=http://www.autoguide.com/auto-news/2011/08/matte-black-lamborghini-aventador-lp700-4-unveiled-in-miami-video.html&docid=7rFMitz0QIk_RM&w=640&h=360&ei=QNRqTt_2DcKcgQelpKD5BQ&zoom=1&biw=1492&bih=915&iact=rc&dur=75&page=1&tbnh=103&tbnw=183&start=0&ndsp=34&ved=1t:429,r:5,s:0&tx=138&ty=71 http://www.zimbio.com/Lamborghini/articles/vfeylgwPB-_/Matte+Black+Lamborghini+Aventador+Delicious

Apparently it's already sold - but what a car! It looks HUGE, even next to the Murcies that were in the shop! And the sound - once those flaps opened up a bit - whoa. Even the auto-blip at startup is ridiculous. I absolutely love it.
Finally got to see this in the flesh @ the Louisville Concours, very striking in person . Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
is the 'white' one on this page balloon white? either way its pretty sick... as is the black on right above this post!
I was flown to Malaysia for the launch of the Aventador there recently, few photos attached. Got to do 4 laps behind the wheel and came away very impressed, brilliant car. Look what I saw this morning!!! I was on my way to school and saw this coming towards me. Immediately hooked a U-turn and got behind it, following it for 10 minutes back the way I came - well worth being late. I can't even explain how good this car looks in person - pix do no justice..and it is SO loud contrary to what most people say. I really did not expect to see this car just yet as they said it would be in on Friday. My adrenaline has yet to lower.... My very first impression when I saw the Aventador recently was how small it looked... I even made a comment about it then.
