I stll don't know what is meant by "they had that car listed." How many owners were there between Gary and now?

By "they had that car listed", I think ken qv meant Gary & his wife Dee.

There have been 2 owners subsequent to them, and the car now resides with a gentleman with a large Ferrari collection here in the USA.

    Hope that helps.

I told my friend to buy it.

He picked up a low-mile Anniversario, for almost the same price.

I believe the asking price for the S1, was in or around 140K ?

Yes, sorry i meant Dee who at one point sent me an email telling me they would be willing to take 95,000 i believe. i looked but have erased the email but i remember because i was shocked to say the least. i think i talked to Emilio about it a little because he saw the potential, but that was it. I totally agree Joe, put the money into it before you try to sell it seems to work better.

No problem. I knew this car from when Gary first saw it. I just lost the trail of ownership for a bit. This car has caused a lot of regret for a bunch of people. God she's gorgeous!

FWIW I got them one-and-a-half times that number as-was, and since then the car has changed hands at almost four times that number, so yes, it pays to get it right.

Bobileff did an excellent job in the basic restoration over 2 years, then it came into my garage for 'finishing school' over another 6 months. All-in-all a very satisfying project, and the current owner just loves the car. Always good to see these cars come back to a high standard, case in point Roy's LP400 which is now far better than new.

    Emilio's friend has a white/white 89.

The last I heard, the white/tan 89 (your-X), was owned by a retired Continental pilot, who lives in or around Austin, Texas.

Would it be a mistake to purchase a Countach with these types of rockers (or similar) with the intent of converting to a purer/original look? The originality issue notwithstanding, I am asking from a cost standpoint. Is this considered major surgery or a relatively easy job?

    That's a really good question...

And, later on, would people consider it's a non-sense, replica type of thing, or would they accept the car as if it had always been as initially designed by Bertone/Lambo ?

In other words : would the resulting car be : totally unsellable, or, slightly under the value of its European peers, or, at the same level ?

While I don't think I would ever resell it, I'd feel reassured if the market value of my car is not too far from what I feel it is worth.

I guess this brings other questions like :

    - limiting to cosmetics to front+back bumpers
    - adding corrections of details like side signals, counters, etc...
    - including rebuilding the engine with the proper Webers / compressions / etc...
    - and finally with the appropriate trunk lid ?

Had to share this shot. Shot was made as I was arriving for the Lexus LFA event at the weekly Exotics @ Redmond Town Center event a few months back. Amazing how wide the back end looks! :)

I think in the next decade or so many more Countach will have DOT items and non-original applications reversed. At that point it will be extremely difficult to sell one that does not look like they did when they were originally conceived. As time goes by there is no question that Countach enthusiasts prefer to enjoy these cars just the way they looked originally, pure & unfettered.

From a practical standpoint, the DOT have said to me that since any Countach is over 21 years old, enforcement of DOT items is moot, so in certain states it is only EPA & emissions concerns that remain.
