Im planning on changing my policy from NJM to Grundy. There will be a savings of about $1500. Does anyone currently use Grundy? Have you had any issues? Has anyone God forbid had to file a claim?

I've had Grundy for 7 years, no problems. But I haven't ever filed a claim, so who knows?

I have used Grundy on all my street rods and sports cars. Have had two claims over the years. One for a buckled fender when the car slipped off the jack and the other for a large hood chip from a "bouncing rock" while driving. Both times they handled it with no issues, no questions. Quick inspection and a check within a week. I highly recommend them and the rates are great. I am insuring my Ferrari with them right now for $500.00 per year, unlimited mileage and full coverage. Hope this helps.

I currently own 4 cars, living in NJ and am using Geico. Grundy and the other one probably called Fergahty...whatever, they gave me a quote on my 16M and it double the quote of what Geico is giving me. I don't have any tickets for the past 10 years ( touch wood ) T4, I stay with Geico

Geico is cheap for daily drivers. I've used them for years.

If you have something collectible where depreciation isn't a factor, you need agreed value insurance -- Geico does not offer that, last time I checked. Grundy, Haggerty and others will charge more, but agreed value coverage is better.

I spoke to Gieco, and they said they cant insure my 599 due to its high value. Very strange.

    I use Barrett-Jackson insurance. $410 a year for full coverage on a 1990 348. $600 less than USAA?

Just be aware of what the different companies provide.

Stated value: "You said what it was worth, but we don't have to believe you." State Farm, Geico, etc.

Agreed Value: "We'll pay up to the agreed value (but we'll haggle over it)." Grundy and a few others

Guaranteed Value: "Insure for any amount, we pay it no questions asked." As far as I know, only Hagerty (and maybe Lloyd's) offers this. That means I could insure my 308 for $200k if I wanted to pay the premium.

FWIW I'm a Hagerty customer, costs ~$600/year to insure my 308 for somewhat higher than typical "market" value.

Grundy was recently bought out by Philadelphia Indemnity Insurance and their service is now terrible. Wait times on the phone and it now takes 1 - 2 days to even get a quote.

Grundy has just denied my claim involving a crash with a guy that ran a Stop sign. It was a joy ride and I stopped at the store. On the way home some old guy blew a stop and destroyed my 328GTS. What should be my next step? Any Atty. advice would be much appreciated.

Argh— this sucks… but, the guy who got ticketed; it’s HIS insurance that should pay for yours. Did he not have insurance or something? Your insurance doesn’t have to accept or deny, it’s his insurance to cover all.

Thanks for your advice. Yes, I heard the guy tell the Cop that he has Acuity. Ins. Once I get the Police report, what do I do next.? I'm 65 and have never been in an accident before. Grundy is actually Philly Ins. and I was hoping they would somehow subrogate between them. Instead I get a stonewall.

Is an Atty. necessary? I told Philly I was on pleasure drive and decided to pick up some items for the Church.

Wow I have Grundy and this makes me want to look into switching. I figured that the least amount of info the better when they ask. Do you have an agent? I specifically asked my agent if I could stop by a store when I was out and they said it was no problem. I have heard of Grundy doing this before, which concerns me. Interested to see how this turns out.

You also may want to look into a service like collision Safety Consultants, they act as a proxy between you and the insurance company to negotiate a fair and proper settlement.

Doesn’t matter where you were going or what you were doing…. It’s his insurance- if you and police got his info, his insurance should be contacting you. You can contact them yourself as well. They’ll pay for your damages. No need for a lawyer- unless for some weird reason, his insurance company starts saying they’re not covering you but they HAVE to cover you (and the other guy) especially if police report shows him at fault.

Years ago I asked Jim Grundy about insuring my 1950 Jaguar Mark V. I asked him if a grocery run was okay on his policy and he said no as that was a daily driver activity and not a pleasure drive. I used USAA for that car for some years and then USAA recommended looking into American Collectors Insurance and I switched the old cars to that carrier.

Recently was shopping around. Got a quote online, signed up, sent a check, got a letter that they gave me the wrong quote - new price was 3X what was quoted online...

YMMY, but that was my experience last month.

Good stuff guys. Thank you. No Agent for Grundy. All done online. And the 348 is inured with Grundy. They call themselves the Gold Standard in SCM, so I went with them. I was told I was good for 2500 miles a year or less. Eventually you have to at least stop for gas, coffee and maybe some Donuts. It's a crooked business. So now I have to take the 348 to the annual Meet in Elkhart Lake (anybody going?) . So they want me to rent a Chinook and have it airlifted?? I am surprised that Acuity has not contacted me. Philly should at least tell them to contact me. They should be my advocate in some way at least.

I hate to burst your bubble but most people carry state minimum limits. In Florida that’s 10/20 with 10 PD. Unfortunately the odds are the person that hit him will have minimal PD limits and they will issue a check and close their file. This won’t help OP whatsoever. Alternatively the other carrier can drag their feet for months which will also not help OP whatsoever.

If you involve your own carrier, which you need to put them on notice, they can start the process and subrogate against the other driver. You have an obligation under your policy to report the claim and if you don’t and just try to go after the other party yourself they could claim late notice.

OP, you need to find out the basis of their denial. They may be using the mileage for the reason. Some policies have a restriction on the yearly miles for pleasure usage. They may have seen from repair records that you are exceeding that and could move it to daily usage rates.
