Ok, my rant for this afternoon is this:

I was looking to buy an F355 spider today, deal fell through due to lack of maintnence that the dealer suggested had been performed. I am tired of "professionals" selling exotics and not being truthful with its records.

I am not new to owning exotics, specific models included.

I am looking for a 96+ F355 spider in red or yellow. I dont really care about miles as much as I do maintnence records. If anybody has one, or knows of one please let me know.

Ebay and auto trader are full of supposed 30k majors and other that arent being truthful.

Of course. My personal fav is "Major service was performed just X miles ago!" Then you find out the car did those miles in 7 years. ACK!

You're in the right place to be directed to a good one, though! It's out there, for sure!

Thank you sir. I am hopinh my fellow exotic owners knows of something. Last guy wanted 53,000. And come to find out the last major was done 4,000 miles ago and over five years. Also needed a new clutch. Never had the valve guides updated, manifolds, sticky parts, etc. BUT, it sure was represnted as a CLEAN up to speed vehicle. Drives me nuts people do this. If your going to sell a Ferrari without the service, THAN TELL PEOPLE.

With all of my past dealings with Exotics I have come to the relization that mainting these cars doesnt increase the value all that much. Its merely part of the game if you ever plan on selling the vehicle. Now a car that hasnt been maintained will bring a much lower value. The roles cant be reveresed. Maintaing your Ford doesnt make your ford double the value. It only retains its value.

I wish more people did business like me. Fair, honest and realistic. I am not in the market to low ball anybody. I pay a fair price for vehicle that has been maintained properly. The consumer retail market needs to stick together. Us buyers should be dictating the market more than the shops do.

Only in a perfect dream (not world). Somebody please let me know they have a dream vehicle with a for sale sign on it.

Try Ferrariads, specifically the red Spider listed by jmbarba76. He seems very knowledgable and spent time with me via phone during my search. Universal did the major...and there are pics to prove it. I was planning on driving to see his car on a Saturday; I found out about the car I own now the previous Wednesday.

Cars.com IMO is a step above autotrader and certainly fleabay.

Good luck and keep us posted!

First of all, why a 96+. Makes no sense.

Secondly, if you expect to buy a 355 with a recent service, no sticky parts, updated headers and valve guides done, expect to pay ALOT more than 53k.

    Good luck on your search.

96+ refers to years 1996 and newer.

There are a number Of F355 out there that have had their routine service performed, and the majority of the failure parts replaced after 25,000 miles for a realistic number.

I am not arguing that every ferrari needs to be x amount of dollars. I am merely stating that in today's economic times it's absurd to ask similar dollars for a vehicle that has been kept up with service with dealer specs. There are F355 out there that have had their major done one or two years ago selling in the 50k range. I think owning one of these cars, it's not very important if you plan on keeping it for a long time to skip services. It resale is a whole different animal.

Kind regards. It's merely my opinion. Buying an f car that was maintained for a fair price is much easier than paying high fortys and getting stuck with a 15-20k engine out bill.

Total understand and feel your pain. Unfortunately, good cars are usually sold amongst private parties and rarely gets advertised. It's a numbers game: either pay for the good example or find a diamond in the rough and you have to fix all the little issues.

One thing I can tell you is that $53K is a realistic price for a 97+ car WITHOUT major service and high miles (30K). A sub 25K miles car, major service completed, with history will run you in the low $60s or high $50s.

Asking mid 70s is crazy. Asking that price and getting it are totally different. Cars over 65k have been on the market fir a long time.

I don't think the point of this thread was to validate the price of the car for sale. It's about a professional seller representing that the car needs nothing when it, in fact, needs an engine out, regardless of the mileage. A qualified Ferrari sales person knows the maintenance intervals and would disclose them. In fact, I have been told to get an engine out as a seller on a car I wanted to put on the market for a cleaner transaction. It's not the money in many cases, it's having the buyer being able to happiy motor around in his new purchase without fear or worry - to the extent that these services provide. The minority of buyers are opportunistic where they are looking for a deferred maintenance exotic to get a good deal.

The cars he was talking about are the rare gems that trade quietly, no one hears about, and never come close to ebay, autotrader, etc.

No, it is not crazy. And cuneo is dead on. My car was not advertised. I found out about it through a fellow F-chatter who knew it was available. Oftentimes the good ones never make it to the internet, thereby skewing the perceived pricing of a model. I do not mean to hijack this thread, but I know what I'm talking about.

Again, good luck with your search.

I know what 96+ means. I am wondering why you would eliminate the best of the breed from your search.

355s that are serviced, have better headers and valve guides address sell for over 70k.

And, you are correct brother, they sell privately between enthusiast.

You couldnt have been more accurate. The thread went from one point to another bidding war which is partly my fault. However, you are absolutly correct.
