I miss my 2010 GT3RS so I've been looking to buy another. In my search to find one I came across a Porsche dealer that will have a new 4.0 RS available in a month. The MSRP is $210K! Base is $185K!

However, you can buy a '10 RS for $120Kish. New 2011s sitting on a showroom floor can be had for $140Kish.

Or, for that matter, you can buy a 2007 or 2008 RS for less than $100K. Nice examples.

If anyone here has a 4.0, or is getting a 4.0, please explain why it's so much better than its predecessor. I see this car taking a $50K hit in depreciation the first year.

    Genuine low production #'s
    Awesome performance.
Last of the manual transmission RS ?
    Strong demand
A lot of coverage in the press.

I am not sure about a 50K hit. ? It may bring more money a few years down the road, when compared to the MSRP.

Ralph, I heard through a friend of mine that the next 991 GT3 will also be a manual as opposed to a PDK. I don't know true it is, but supposedly one of the Porsche Exec's mentioned it in an interview.

    I also read this.

The 4.0 might go up in value in 10+ years but Porsches rarely go up in value in the very short term.

Im not sure the 4.0 is worth an extra 70k compared to a showroom new GT3RS..

It's all about the motor. I had the opportunity to drive one a couple of months ago in Germany and there's nothing else like it. The four litre is my favourite 911 of all time.

There's barely any coverage of the car in the American press. No US journos were invited to drive it and they had to get their stories from the Europeans.

Road & Track had a full road test in Germany in last months issue; acceleration times (0-100, 1/4 mile, etc) were exactly the same as RS 3.8 tested in US

    Tony and Andrew,

While on a business trip, I read an article from one of the rags, that is devoted to just P cars. I 'assumed' the article on this special car; mentioned about the 4.0 (RS), as being the last of the 'sport' models, with the fun manual box.

Perhaps, I need to go back to school and learn how to read P rags ? :D

No doubt, both the 3.8 and 07/08 RS autos, offer close performance #'s, to the 4.0. According to the article, the 4.0 RS, will have low worldwide production #'s.

It would be advantageous to work as a bottom-feeder, if you want to save some significant coin. With this future collector car, it will never be difficult, to find a cherry car, with low miles.

And airport runways are notoriously slippery, but don't let the facts get in the way of a good story. Just like the fact that serial number 000 is one of at least a dozen. The one tested is the one I drove.

Out of all the special editions Porsche has placed this year the 4.0 should be the people will remember. The standard GT3 is one of the best car I have ever played with, I can only imagine what the 4.0 experience will be like. I hope to find out soon!

Chris Harris purchased one of the 4.0 models for his own use. Only 7 were coming to the U.K. and they had buyers for at least 27?
The 991 version of the GT-3 may be available with a manual trans but it won't have the old style GT-1 motor...

It would be hard to find a bigger proponent of the Porsche GT3 project than Chris Harris. He has lived every aspect of that model since the beginning. He drove an earlier brand new Mk.1 version GT 3 from the Porsche factory to the Nurburgring for some hot laps a few years ago. This was after being told not to by the Porsche press office...
