Hi guys, I'm working on a new magazine which might interest the most of you: a 308 Magazine!!! I think it would be nice to have our own magazine and I would really like to know your thoughts and comments. I am a photographer and designer myself and I have been working in the magazine business, so I will be doing most of it myself. But I need content. So that's why I would really like to work with some of you guys. To get started I would make one or two per year and print it digitally. Obviously I would like to get advertisers, eventhough it is a private initiative for a very small group of people. There are some topics I would really want to put in the magazine, such as an interview (with Fioravanti for instance), tech tips (which I can get on this forum), Club News, Featured cars, DIY tips and tricks, don't forget the girls. Stuff from the past. Maybe even recuperate old interviews and content. It should be a gathering of information, old and new, photography and it should be put in a very classy layout. The emphasis is originality, the cars should be as original as possible. Think Classic and Sports Cars magazine. Please let me know what you think. I would like to work together with US photographers and writers. Also I am not English speaking, so it would be nice to have someone who can edit or even rewrite some of my textes. Also if you have old pictures or you know someone who has 308 pictures, that would be very nice to have. Finally, the 308 Magazine will be talking about the 308 Family, so we'll have 308 GT4's, 288 GTO's, Vetroresina's, 208 GT-cars etc... No Mondials, no 328. That's another magazine. What a fantastic idea. I would be willing to write and article about how to get financially upside down with a 308 in record time!
I would consider subscribing and could supply pics of events i go to around the Colorado area. If you want kickass pics, you should get hold of Ronnie Renaldi -- he usually posts in the Rocky Mountain section of this site.
Be sure to include 328s since they are basically the same. Don't need to change the title (although a more market-capturing title could be "Magnum Ferrari")
I could get behind a 308/328 magazine. Just a 308 magazine is cool, but 328s are the most basic evolution. Besides, it would provide more content to the magazine. I can see the possibilities. The problem is there are what, 15k 308/328s on the planet? It's not like a Porsche 911 magazine where there are hundreds of thousands of owners around doing 5000 different projects. I can count on one hand how many people are really getting arms deep into one of these things. That being out of the way though, I like the overall idea and wish you luck. I will certainly support it
OK, lots of great feedback, I'm hearing that 328's should be included. I really like the vintage pictures of Dr Tommy Cosgrove. If I could have high resolution scans that would be great! I'm looking at a 32 page magazine as we speak, and I'll probably gonna start with a 308 only magazine, first pilot-issue will be printed digitally. No idea about the costs but hopefully I can get some advertisers to cover for the costs.
Maybe we can finally have a definitive article on what 3x8 version is the best to buy! Great idea Kris. If you need anything just let me know (perhaps the original press release for the 308 GTB?) Best, Peter
Agree on including the 328s. I've owned a Mondial, a 308 and now a 328, and they are all clearly of the same DNA. Focusing a magazine like this on such a narrow segment as 308 only truly limits the potential number of subscribers. Expanding it to include all of the "related" models, at least the GT4, 328 and Mondial, would open up the subscriber base as well as a wider range of content that might appeal to a large group of enthusiasts. The 308 is not a unique, stand-alone model. It is clearly intertwined with its close relatives, and much of the information that is relevant to the 308 crosses over with these other models as well. I would definitely be interested in a magazine that focused on the 308/328/GT4/Mondial series of cars, even if it was called "308 Magazine" and had its main thrust at the 308 itself. But 308 only would probably not interest me.
I agree. Though it's a shame because "308" is such a powerful brand and iconic typography for the cover. And the 308's pedigree extends further when you move away from the engine and into styling: the 246 Dino and the 512 Boxer are definitely part of the "family"
It's a little risky simply finding enough info to fill the pages long term. Anyone remember Otto? Didn't last and it had what's his name behind it. But I supported it and I will this too in every way I can. I know we can fill a year easy but perhaps bi monthly is best at first. Baby steps. Make it last.
I was just thinking the same thing. Looks as if its still available on line through the Cavallino website. I would suggest a quarterly pub.
Kris, I/we are here to support you on your magazine, you know me, I'm a 308 magazine/books collector.
