I've heard nothing - but thinking about it and the fact that the 599 was typically used as adaily driver by many owners - it would make sense to have 4x4 available on-demand - especially in winter. Love the piece about the adaptive dampers - such marketing BS - the same adaptive dampers Delphi 3rd gen magnetoheological were first installed on the Land Rover Freelander!

I agree, the painted pictures look like they took a FF and pressed it down to widen the car. Take a little from the California and add some of the FF and you get a new 599. We'll see what the final product looks like soon.
Mmhh... just wondering about all the recent 599 GTO owners. The 599 successor will most likely be significantly faster and it comes only a year or so later. As an owner I wouldn't be too happy. Would they have sold so many GTOs had they called it "final edition" instead?
When the FF came out I recall reading that the AWD system won't be added to other cars in the lineup.
Why? I always have a smile on my face after a blast in my GTO. What does the introduction of a new model have to do with my enjoyment of the current model?
That's also true... I wish I had one, really cool car!! As long as the "GTO" brand is not streched too much for marketing reasons - we'll see in the future...
Amedeo Felisa stated that the car would not have AWD system. However Ferrari have said that 700HP is around the threshold of what 2WD can put to the ground in a road car. In regards to the styling predictions only one Italian magazine/website and one F-Chat member have been accurate in the past.
Thats the thing, the GTO has a very unique feel which I highly doubt will be replicated by the 599 replacement, its an extreme car and someone I know well and has driven every Ferrari is of the opinion that the GTO has a fair bit in common with the F40, that same edgy raw extreme feel.
Shouldn't they make the new car look less like a 599GTB with an FF front? The mules must be far of the final product to fool all the guessers?
i agree with that. the 599 successor will not replicate the 599 GTO feel, it will improve upon it....
Spot on I'm obviously keeping an eye (or 20 ) on the 599 replacement and will most likely get one. But ... I don't see it replacing my GTO. That's stays in the stable and I won't love that car less if the 599 replacement is quicker than the GTO. In fact, I'm hoping it to be quicker but it won't change the way I feel about my GTO.
I dont agree, primarily because the new car wont be a stripped out road racer like the GTO, it will be more luxury orientated like the 599. Its that lightness of feel that make the GTO so different.
When comparing against the F40, is that 599GTO with nannies on or off? Is it as ‘easy’ (as F40) for a very competent driver to ‘place’ a 599GTO at speed with nannies off?
every time i've ever driven the new model that replaces the old 'stripped-out' model, the new one is way better. gto=599. how much does it weigh anyway? and besides ferrari are keeping the weight down, look at 458 coupe vs. scud? i bet new 599 will weight almost like a gto
Not necessarily. The curb weight of a 2011 458 coupe is 3,273.83 lbs. A 2009 430 Scuderia's curb weight is 2,750 lbs.
you have your numbers confused: scud's dry weight is 2775 and 458 dry weight is 3042(per ferrari.com website). so yes the 458 is slightly heavier but having owned both cars the 458 is way sportier, faster, etc...than a scud coupe. i mean, its not even close. i'll bet 599 replacement will be the same way. just imagine 700hp, e-dif, latest f1-trac and double clutch 7 speed tranny, WoW. the car's going to be insane and suddenly the gto will seem very, well, '80's????
I happen to have the computer stick for a 458 coupe that comes directly from the factory. The tech numbers are very specific and state that "Curb" weight of the 458 is 3273.83 lbs and that represents a significant weight differential. Will the 599 replacement be faster...Possibly. But unless you have driven a GTO such comparisons are pointless. The 599 replacement is a top line luxury GT with all the bells and whistles that implies. The GTO is built almost from the ground up soley using 599 XX race technology. There is so much more to the GTO then its top speed. It has a presence ,a rawness an almost primal and dangerous feel that cannot be described...... It has to be experenced. By todays standards an F40 is not particularly fast.... But I doubt any owner would replace it with a 458. The complete package transends the nuts and bolts of its successors. As an owner I can say without a doubt the same can be said of the 599 GTO.
i dont mean to belittle the gto at all, but it just seems that the new models keep getting better and better and more exciting and involving, etc. ie scud v. 458 and i'm not sure why any of these cars ever get compared to an f40, which is an antique, caveman experience that does not appeal to me at all for the street. not sure why ferrari screws up the weights of the cars, but whatever. to me, my 458 seems lighter on its feet than my scud did.
The GTO is definitely not light. Maybe compared to a 599, but it's still a very heavy car and this is evidenced when you put it on a track.
