And he'll be there next year, too. Wildly bemusing state of affairs.

Perhaps... but prior preparation can be an explanation for this. :)

Ferrari won't win a WCC as long as Massa is there. Who's idea was it to keep him through 2012.

Ferrrari wont win it with FA at the team this year either. Until they get a car that can actually compete for something above 4th, then yes its Massa's fault lol. Very very entertaining indeed.

Today we saw FA unable to pass Massa and Massa wasnt really having to defend or drive in any way out of sorts to keep the brave and heralded FA back, and he's a hack?

Yes thats reality on Fchat today.

Im quite complimentary to FA if you see my posts and he has done amazing things with semi dog of a car this year. He's far from perfect in any way especially when faced with a competitive team mate. He says he's grown out of it. We will honestly never know. Its team Scuderia Alonso and he is quite happy, in the press this week on Autosport with Felipe as team mate. I will happily dig up the link with his words to about the 'hack'.

Had one great start start today as well.

Fernando was struggling with his tires per the BBC. Explains his lack of speed. He said he was only quick with his last set of tires. You can all rest easy now. It was the tires. :)

Actually he made a few defensive moves, but anyway, it´s not his fault: someone from the pits should told Massa to get get out of the f'u-ing way. Alonso could have reached the podium today if he had not been slowed down by Massa in the first part of the race.

And if Massa doesn´t like it, I´d say him: f*** you or create your own team like Jack Brabham.

don't sweat it DF1, the ones calling him a hack are also the ones who wanted Ferrari to have a clear #2 driver. So this is what you asked for, people. With the current field this almost automatically means sixth place finishes. With 98 points out of 16 races (including two retirements) and 8 points for sixth place he is doing a nice job.

    And what´s the problem?

If that´s good for the team, it´s good for me, and I don´t care if it´s not good for one of the drivers.

He would have fisnished behind anyway, but without bothering the other driver.

When one factors in the quality of the car, Massa looks like Jimmy Clark when compared to mark webber. At least massa can win once in awhile when he has the best car...poor mark has completely lost the plot..

Just came back from Italy and luca will be at a dinner in fidenza that a relative is attending. Needless to say, I asked my relative to ask luca if massa has pictures of luca in a compromising position with farm animals as that is the only reason why massa is still here IMHO. Might as well have Rossi...

Jeez. We get it. Even kraftwerk probably doesn't find this funny anymore.

One ridiculously boring race, but congrats to Vettel for handing everyone their asses as usual and it must be said that it was one hell of a drive from FA to be right behind the lead pack comprised of cars much faster than his own.

Oh, and Petrov is a joke.

Trust me not sweating it. Alonso looked so glum on camera with the BBC before the race it was amazing. The fault is not Felipe's its mostly down to the car being inconsistent and unable to work with anything other than softer compounds.
The same one's here putting down Felipe also loudly call people out when they bash LH if they allude to his problems/say he is done etc.

The WDC is gone the WCC is out of reach and its not, frankly anyone's fault in particular. Clearly the pit walll didnt move Felipe out of the way because, in fact, FA was not faster as he said with the BBC after the race. Crap happens eh? :) He was 3rd after turn 1. He's also a 'hack' starter he is :)

Oh, I know. Maybe instead of gesticulating he should have run into the back of said hack, ripped his front wing off and gotten a drive-thru? That's what the cooler heads do, right? :)

For those arguing over Alonso being behind Massa (part of My post from the Korean GP qualifying thread):

To those accusing Massa of being a hack:

He sure didn't look like a hack at the start of the race!. He got off the line well and did a good job battling with Webber and Button (helping Alonso get past Button into the bargain!).

Okay he faded at the end and settled for 6th place but based on the cars and drivers ahead of him, that was about right.

As for suggestions of replacing Massa: Replace him with who exactly? Just who is it there that is either as good or better than Massa? (or suitable as a team mate for Alonso?). Who is the super talent who can come into Ferrari, fit right in straight away, work with Alonso and instantly make them a winning team again?

Discounting Vettel, Hamilton, button, and Webber (non of whom are going anywhere), I can't see anyone else on the grid who can blatantly do a better job than Massa!.

Perhaps someone on here who feels Massa needs replacing knows differently!.

Good race. Hamilton was the driver of that race followed by Webber. Some fantastic driving by both of them.

I swear both Mercedes must have targets on them as it seems both of them are consistently being knocked out of races by complete idiots. Nico should be ashamed of his second half of the race and being passed by a Toro Rosso. Really terrible. Michael was being very smart in his first race stint in not trying to catch up and pass Petrov. His second set of tires showed tons more pace. Too bad really.

It wasn't entirely Petrov's little incident.

Alonso was going way too fast to make the corner too - he just lucked out in that he had somewhere to go other than into the back of another car. Alonso didn't take to the run-off area by choice, even if the other cars hadn't been there he couldn't have made that corner at those approach speeds.

I wonder if Alonso will get a talking to as well even if he is spared grid penalties for avoiding the actual collision.

    All the best,
    Andrew.

    Really?

Hami starts P1 and finishes P2. And likely would have been P3 had RBR not blown webber's 2nd stop timing.

Webber p4 to p3, with a deserved p2 was good for webber. But webber is in a car that any top driver should be able to get P2 with,... so he gets a ho-hum from me.

I can't find it now, but IIRC it was EDIT; tifosiusa who called it "ridiculously boring". [posts 262]

I just don't get it! I can only guess you (among others) think it's kind of "cool" to refer to it as boring..... A quick search reveals you two call pretty much *every* damn race "boring"! I guess I don't understand why you watch it at all.

It wasn't an "instant classic", but it was a *long* way from boring.

And the constant Phil bashing is getting *really* old too btw. I've asked many times for someone to name a replacement that would be an improvement without any credible answers; Phil is far and away the best #2 Ferrari could have right now for reasons I'm not going to repeat again.

    Cheers,
    Ian

Well, that's a bit of a heavy handed argument there, isn't it?

Of course there are replacement options for Massa. But if you dismiss anything as "not credible", well then in fact there aren't any.

    Want some names?
Just look at who else is driving a Ferrari powered F1 car. Or look at some of the feeder series. Or at some of the guys doing some hotlaps around Fiorano.

The difference between a Massa and Kobayashi (for instance) is that Koby will only get better while Massa has peaked in 2008 and is on his decline.

Ferrari needs a strong support driver who can eventually take over. That's a role for a young driver, not a has-been or barely-ever-was.

It'll be interesting to see who will eventually get the 2nd seat. I'm pretty sure it will not be a superstar but some young gun.
