Was at a track day today and among other things this was there, wasnt easy to do justice to this paint work but I will say its very subjective and I think this particular is very interestingly specced, different details, quite a few carbon pieces.

    A very different looking 458.

Looks nice. IMO, he should have gone with black calipers. The red calipers just ruin the whole yellow/black theme of the car.

I was also suprised to see the red calipers.....perhaps the idea was to create a contrast to all the yellow!

Agreed on the red callipers, very jarring. And the silly mirrors and door releases do it no favours either.

Personally, I'm not crazy about the black stripe on the mirrors and the black door handles. I'd rather hide these details than call them out.

But, the car is certainly stunning and that's what's fantastic about Ferrari -- you can order whatever makes you happy.

+1. Needs different colored calipers as already stated but it looks awesome otherwise!

CF rear end would have been a good addition

Wow! I like what they did with the mirrors, looks great with the black top. I am still not a fan of yellow though.

That's what's wrong with Ferrari of late. One of the things that define Ferrari is design, and letting customers design the cars in an attempt to squeeze out every last dollar is a good way of eroding one of their core values. We end up with coloured door releases and filler caps. And that's frippery, not good design. Fortunately a large proportion of owners are quite conservative (the "a Ferrari should always be red" brigade), which is the only thing that stops it getting too out of hand.

Interior is actually quite restrained, crema standard seats and black carpets.

I partly agree with you, however I'm more worried about strange interior combos than exterior details. It would be OK for me that all special requests had to be approved by Ferrari as for their tastefulness, contrary to allowing any colour anywhere.

Sign of the times, I'm afraid. We've all gotten it into our heads that we have a right to 'entitlement'. We all think that we should be able to have anything we want and to say otherwise is decried as elitism or just plain snobbery. But without rigour we're standing at the top of the slippery slope. Apart from anything it strikes me as odd that you would buy a Ferrari for what it is (and most of us do, to a degree, buy the work of art that is the sum of the decisions that Ferrari make) then decide to change it. Would anyone buy a Picasso, love it for what it is, but then take a set of coloured pencils to it to make it just the way they wanted? Of course not. But for some reason a whole bunch of people think they know better than Pininfarina.

I should add that the subject of this thread is not the worst offender, not even close, and is not the target of any implied criticism. If I'm aiming at anyone it must be Ferrari themselves for abusing their own heritage in search of every last dollar.

phunny... how Ferrari has managed to survive... since day one... with custom details...if one had a "bucket of paint" that they liked, the factory would put it on... nothing new here...

why the outcry on one's personal preferences when ordering a new Ferrari, that's always been the way... no "one size fits all" is what this marque is all about

"have it your way" is the theme thoughout the after market / custom auto industry catering to those wanting to blurr the "cookie cutter" image of production vehicles

it's not about if we agree with what we see, but rather about the customer getting his wishes

Personally, I like the ability to customize the car as you like it even though I won't actually do much of that. One exterior color, one leather color and contrasting stitching (IMO less is more). I think a Ferrari belongs on the track, not to be paraded around. But hey, To each his own.

Overall, I think the customization is good. It allows one to display their personal taste (or lack thereof as we have seen many times). :)

It's called the Free Market. Build it purple if you want; it's your car.

I don't think that the yellow is triple layer, as here is a pic of a Cali with Giallo Tristrato that I got from the Cali chats. I think I'm probably going to order my 458 Spider in this color, the depth of the color makes it incredibly beautiful.

    Hi Jacques
Thanks for the welcome! I just saw that you are in Cape Town, I'm in JHB & thinking of moving to CT. Were the photos taken at Killarney racetrack?
