I love the Testarossa, it was one of the few posters I had on my wall as a kid. But as I've aged, I actually feel like I like its predecessor the 512 Boxer a little better. Not exactly sure why I like the more conservative Boxer more, as I normally like the more aggressive designs. Still, I hope to one day have a garage with a 430, 512 (Boxer or Testarossa), and 308 all together.

I tend to prefer the curvier cars like the 355, but a nice 512 certainly gets my attention.

Exactly, I don't get the feeling from his ad that he is saying his car was used on the show. If he is, he's burying that history at the bottom of the ad, instead of crowing it in the title.

The first Miami Vice Testarossas were indeed delivered black, 2 for the first season the Testarossa was used. As the legend goes They were given/loaned to the show by Ferrari, as part of the deal to get rid of the McBurnie Daytona replica. The show publicly destroyed the fake, and got free use of the Testarossas.

When the cars arrived and shooting began producers weren't pleased with the way the black cars showed up in night shots, so they were painted white.

Molds were taken off of one of the cars and a body was created for a DeTomaso Pantera chassis, to be used as a stunt vehicle/camera rig.

One of the Testarossas was set up as an "interior" car, with a camera rig to shoot scenes taking place within the car, either from a camera facing into the side windows, or through the windscreen.

The other was the Hero car and was not modified in any way. This was the car most often seen being driven from outside the car.

I like the TR but think the Boxer is a much better looking car; but different strokes for different folks :)

Most everyone will have an opinion about the best looking Ferrari. You cannot deny, when out in everyday traffic, a Testarossa amongst the cookie-cutter crowd is the most beautiful car you will ever see. With it's departing view as it speeds away, is just stunning to see a car that beautiful.

That's the story I remember as well. I'm also fairly sure the original Black wasn't just "Nero" it was "Nero Metallizato" with the crema interior (just like my baby).

Yes but the daytona replica(s) were sold not destroyed, were there more than two and they destroyed one of those? I did know of one on the open market in the mid 90's that sold.

There were more than one Daytona replica as well, and while it is likely the stunt car was the one that caught the missile, who can tell at that range?

Slightly off topic ... I saw a Testarossa this last weekend with a black prancing horse on the rear grille. Someone suggested this was from 1988 - the year Enzo died. Is there any truth to this? If so, was the black emblem used on all models at the time, and between which build dates?

    Thanks!

I agree, the Testarossa is lovely! Although I think the 250/288 GTO, F40, 355, 550 Barchetta, 575M are beautiful as well and have aged very well!

Great question! I've seen a few recently, most with black horses and one with red horses. I'll post what I can later. Ferrari of Atlanta has one for sale with F40 brakes!

The stock rear cavallino is black on all TR -- many of us have changed to the chrome style (which looks even more "stock" than stock ;)). Red?...puke...

I don't think the color of the grille ever changed, but rather the horse attached to the grille has been seen in black, red and silver. Do you know if black was the only color in which these horses came from the factory?
