I have to admit I liked it better than I thought I might - got a chance to look at it next to a 997 outside Porsche Park. I like the new Racing Yellow color, and it looks good in Guards Red as well. The back end is very Aston Martin-ish to me, but it doesn't look substantially bigger than the 997. NOT a fan of the make/model lettering on the rear - if it were mine that's the first thing that would come off. Headlight lenses aren't flat anymore; Interior looks roomier, but couldn't get in to confirm that.

There's usually a $0 model designation delete option on Porsches.

In your photos, the red car looks a little "blobby" around the rear end -- not in a svelte way like the old 993, but in the "I have a huge ass" way of recent Ferraris and the 928.

At least they were kind enough to include a sandwich heating compartment back there, though.

The Guards Red coupe has the best looking wheels.

No ugly bumper blocks on either side of the rear lic plate for USA versions anymore either; yes this is a Euro version pictured.
Not sure how popular automatic engine shut-off at traffic lights will be though as a standard feature...

The yellow car had the carbon-ceramic brakes, so those wheels are likely the new turbo wheels. The cars were Euro spec - you can also tell by the clear repeaters on the front fenders.

I wonder how the auto shut-off will work on the 7-speed manual? Have to look that one up.

Seems all the newer models have that "fat ass" look... I agree the 993 was more appealing in that regard, but it largely evolved from the 80's when the mostly slab-sided cars sprouted fenders to house the wheels for the turbo models. Again in person it didn't look tremendously changed from the 997, but I couldn't get a clear pic of the cars side-by-side for comparison.

If the average driver doesn't notice it, then it should be OK.

But for anyone who enjoys engine noises, kind of a bummer.

Wonder why they're trying to hide the engine so much? Is it because as things transition to hybrids or electric etc. they won't want you to see that so they're already limiting the engine view?

All that lettering on the back does look busy.

The design is certainly not leaps better than the 997. It might appeal to the "gotta have it" crowd though.

I asked that question. Apparently they are concerned with us tinkering with the engine as there are very tight fed regulations. So to change the belts, air filter, it is probably easiest to remove the bumper with several bolts. Not to stand up for Porsche, but all this has been evolving and now we realize nothing is left to view.

For the lettering, Porsche was trying to get back to its old 911's with "Porsche". I agree it is too much (everyone knows it is a Porsche) and should be deleted.

i think the pictures are helping me in affirming my memership to the 930 turbo fraternity.

i do have some interest in the 997 gt3 but i think i will not be an owner of the new 911. it has gotten far too large and i suspect i would opt for the added two doors and just get a panamera as a dd.

i am sure it is a fantastic driver however.
