One thing that bothers me about the awesome 599 is lack of clear bonnet for the Enzo derived engine. Why? To me, Ferrari ruined the look of the car by not putting this like other Ferraris. Otherwise it would be the best Ferrari especially if mid engine. Never could understand why the 599 was designed as a front engine car.

My guess would be because the engine is in front.... would never pass crash ratings

It was designed as a grand tourer - that's why the engine is in front.

Frankly I think it would look pretty lame and would take away from the beauty of the car.

Corvette has a window over the front engine (ZO6 and/or ZR1)...maybe a square foot in size and you look at some aluminum. Looks pretty lame.

A glass cover on a front-engined car would look seriously out of place IMO.

Agreed. Just showing how odd it looks with a clear bonnet.

You can always remove the hood and drive around in reverse everywhere. Presto! Mid-engine with motor on display.

Ruined the look? Like other Ferraris? I suggest you take $19.95 to your local bookstore
and purchase a book on the full sixty-plus year history of Ferrari. Maybe take a glance at
the vintage section where you will see such wonders as the testa rossa (two words and
no slats), the 250GT California Spyder (no retractable hard top) and the 250 GTO.

You might also be interested to know that there is a difference between supercars and GTs.
Ferrari has had a long successful history of making front-engined, flat 12-cylinder cars and
    managed
    not to "ruin" their looks.

But if you insist, I'm sure that there are many aftermarket shops just itching to get their
hands on a 599. May I suggest "Pimp My Ride"!

When I drive my TR backwards, it is indeed such a car :)

The 612 shots with the glass bonnet are comical.

I was thinking that as well. But after seeing the 612 with the clear glass it was worth it. I most likely would never have come across that image if it weren't for the original post. But I could have lived without seeing it. ;). To say they ruined the car is ridiculous. Unlike the mid engined 8s and the Enzo, its not designed to show. The 8s also have much prettier engine bays, but thats subjective.

The part about the 599 being designed as a front engined car...well it WAS designed as a front engined car. Ferrari needs to offer a GT. The same could be said for the 612, Cali, and all other past front engined cars. You gotta have some variety in the lineup. 4 seaters wouldn't be possible either.

Eh that 250 GTO thing is such a terrible design. Ferrari ruined the car by not putting the engine in the back! I think the OP thinks the 599 is the first ever front engine Ferrari.

The glass window on the 360 was exciting but now I am not a huge fan. If you see the engine everyday then there is nothing exciting about opening up the hood.

You still have to open the hood to see the beautiful Tubi that says "360 Spider" which is pretty exciting.

I can't look at a ZR1 without feeling let down by that dumb#$$ window in the hood that displays...surprise! Plastic! Great car, but c'mon, why??
