ohh i luv ur " black widow"...did u manage to strip all the weight from the Spyder ??
Somebody make that into a badge to put on the rear challenge grille for the Spider! and a badge to sit below the shields reading "15M Spider Stradale"
I've been staying tuned and still no video.... "I'm not going to be ignored" (said like Glenn Close from the film Fatal Attraction). lol. I'm salivating like Pavlov's dog over here.
Likewise! I, too, believe this has to be the best 360 Spider in the world - manual, convertible, Stradale engine - it's perfect. Indeed; might be time for a name-change.
I KNOW , I KNOW ! We have been swamped with work and ( leak here ) finishing our 360 derived simulator ...little " black widows " ! http://youtu.be/EwGAubTdVUU http://youtu.be/0l1bKXJfX34 ( FYI my sons's 914 is fillin for future editing ) I will try to post some of the speed runs we recorded ..... LOUD !
Well, been noticing a bit more heat from the engine cover. Spiders have a much reduced engine compartment in comparison to the 360 coupe, reason for which you see many of us 360 Spider owners popping the engine hatch to allow some of the heat to dissipate. Running full CS mechanicals I'm quite sure I am creating a bigger heat source within the aforementioned engine bay. Quite a bit of additional heat smell after sustained drives. In reviewing the grill design for the 430 Spider, it is apparent that Ferrari had to induce more airflow to the grill area due to a larger displacement engine. Looking at the grill design 360 Vs 430, the 430 grill seems incorporate a design that creates a venturi effect, along with the use of thinner mesh to increase air flow. While I like the CF look, the aftermarket grills available restrict airflow even more than the stock grill. I sourced a set of 430 grills from an F-Chat Member and ordered the proper brackets from Ricambi. I will have to widen a few mounting holes, but all in all it seems like a fairly simple transformation / upgrade. Has anyone else done this ? Image Unavailable, Please Login
Thanks ..I'm familiar with your 914-6, great looking car. I've been working on restoring my " 6 " for ages, along with my son's conversion ...small world ! Ironically, my Spider Stradale was inspired by the feel and the great experiences I've had with the 914. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
What a great idea. Can you post up or send me some pictures of how you got them to fit? I'll look to do this on mine.
Very cool. I hope to have some 'Daddy - Daughter' projects in the car world when my daughter gets old enough to appreciate it...she is just over 2 years old now.
Hey Enrique, As you know we have the same exhausts. When I first installed it, I had the tailpipe bypass valves connected and the hood got so hot that I could barely touch it. I'm guessing that since our muffler only has one exit per side, there is a lot of buildup of heat inside of the muffler. My previous Maxpseed and Tubi exhausts both have two exits per side. I disconnected the valves and the hood/engine compartment temp went down dramatically. With the valves opened, all exhaust flows more freely out from the engine, bypassing the muffler to a huge degree. I also added Thermo Tec under the hood, similarly to the heat resistant material on the underside of a Stradale hood and the temp of the hood decreased even more. I once compared hood temps with another friend after driving to Vegas on a Pauper's run. He has the same car with a Tubi and Challenge grill and my hood temp was alot cooler and I dont have a Challenge grill. I think you told me previously that your car is really loud with the valves opened up, but is it really that much louder than my car?? BTW, using the mug that you gave me here at work!
Thanks for the info Todd .... your info makes total sense. I do think there is an issue with airflow over the grills, as you would think that having the Challenge Grill would extract some of the heat. Thermo Tec is a great tip !
In conjunction with the grill change, I'll be installing a Bilge Fan to assist in additional airflow into the engine compartment. A thread was started a few months back, in which various " fan " ideas where being proposed ...not sure if anyone actually installed fans. Nevertheless, the fan I will be utilizing fits perfectly in three pedal cars in the void not used by the F-1 pump, with easy access to the fender well as a source of fresh air.
