More of update although I have already done all of this work some weeks ago I thought I would post the photos. When I removed the fuel tank there was something loose inside. Having seen Ernie thread on rebuilding the fuel pumps I decided to strip and rebuild both pumps (see photos) my pumps were nowhere near as bad as Ernies ones. I have a feel around in the tank and could feel there was a loose baffle that sits between the 2 pumps. I thought long and hard about it and decided to open up the tank and either remove the baffle or try and re attach it. As you can see by the photos I cut open the tank and re welded the baffle back in and then welded up the flap I had made. Now my alloy welding is not the best looking but I pressure tested it and got no leaks. Here are some photos of the engine built up. I always wanted to test the engine before I installed it in to the car. So I strapped it to the Motorcycle lifts I have here at work and set about pluming it in and wiring it up to run. As you can see by the photos it does not take much in the way of work to attach the oil tank, Rad etc. The only thing I had a bit of hard time with was working out the for the Ecu but got there in the end. The engine fired right up and ran very sweet. Here is a video I made of the motor running. You will have to forgive the quality of the sound as I used my phone to take the video. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=69iWs3Tx0Y0 Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Wow ! well over a year since i last posted, sorry for the delay from me. I moved house 2 years ago and have been busy renovating it which has taken up all my spare time. I got the car back from the body shop (Alsa Automotive) early on this year but like i said i have not had the time to work on it. Since the nights have been getting darker i have been able to spend some time on the car, rather than the house. Here are some photos from the body shop, i have since installed the fuel tank, rads, wiring, engine, suspension drive shafts etc just waiting on some parts to fit the brake callipers. Will post more photos when i remember to take my camera to the workshop. Bloody hell Paul, it's been a long time between drinks. Great pics, car looks like new. Please don't wait so long to update us with pics. What is the next plan of attack?
Thanks Pap, will try and keep this thread up to date now! The Plan Finish off installing the running gear and brakes, then start work on the interior refit, then road test of which i cannot wait for. Dont know if you remember but i purchased the car early 2006 and have only driven it for around 100 miles! I have had the motor runing in the car and done a few heat cycles to make sure all the radiator fans work as they should. Dug out the gravel guards tonight and i can see there is going to be a few hours work brining them up to scratch. Here 2 photos (taken on my phone) putting the engine back in. I was remembering this thread just the other day and was going to post asking if anyone knew what had happened to this project. Good to see the work continues. Keep it up Paul!
Very exciting Paul. I know you're looking forward to the finish product much more than we are!! Everything looks great, top notch!!
Hi Paul, Looks like Al did a great job for you there!! Keep up the good work, I look forward to seeing the car when its finished. Regards, Phil.
Thanks Guys for the kind words. A small update (sorry for the poor photos taken on my phone) Got all the drive shaft and suspension on now and finally fitted the brake callipers once i got the shims from Ferrari. Why they could not get there machining right i dont know ? Had to spend quite a bit of time to get the calliper centred on the disc but got there in the end. Got the wheels on and it sat under its own weight for the 1st time is 3 years, got the set the ride height and the rear camber next Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Landsakes man! You are spending a mint on that car. Did you get everything refinished because it looks brand new. That entire rear hub looks fantastic!
Very cool Paul. Car is looking like new and it reminds me of another old Fchatters 348 (Dave I think his name was) with a 348 that was restored to like new.
Hi Pap, I think you mean Dale`s 348, not that he ever used it while he owned it!! Looking at Paul`s car, I have a feeling it could be the same, but I hope not? Regards, Phil.
Hello Phil, YES!! Dale's car! Yeah, he never drove it and I don't blame him. Hopefully Paul doesn't restore it to that level which may make the car "un-driveable".
