I continue to get 1445 & 1448 codes on my 1998 355 F1. I replaced all three ECU's with the 179278 new ones. Also replaced the three thermocouples and all four O2 sensors (Bosch 13819 front / 13820 rear) That cleared up the 1449 code. But the 1445 & 1448 along with a slow down light remain. What happens if the electrical connectors on the two right side CAT ECU's are reversed? Would it throw these codes? Cause runability issues? Thanks....
I'm thinking yes. The ECU would be looking for improved readings front to rear and is seeing the readings get worse instead of better. Just my guess.
I think you are referring to the O2 sensors being reversed. I apologize if I was not clear.....but I was wondering what would happen if I had the Cat ECU and the ByPass ECU connections swapped while the thermocouple connections we correct.
When I swapped the new ECU's into the car I carefully marked each connection so I would not confuse them on re-install. I never thought that the previous work was incorrect....but it was. I should have caught this much sooner than I did. The electrical drawings I have show the bypass ECU is wired as: Green Black Violet / Black The R/H Cat ECU is: Green Black Violet Inspection on my car showed they were indeed reversed. While it is far too early to tell, I put 20 miles on it last night and no slow down light, no CEL & no pending codes. Finally....some progress. So, what damage could I have caused by driving the car with these ECU wired incorrectly? Anything?
Thanks guys. I cleared the codes yesterday...again...and they have not returned yet. Just wish I would have checked the wiring first. I suspect I have two perfectly good CAT ECU's & thermocouples that I replaced because I assumed the previous mechanics wiring was correct. Should have known better based on the history...... Oh well, spare parts are good to have I guess
