You seem to think that because I don't want to be a vegan (the dietary equivalent of Al Qaeda), I stuff my face with Baconators every day. And I'm not "open" to the "truth". Moreover, my views are out of perspective. Thanks, Upton Sinclair.

I enjoy killing animals and eating them. You need to be open to that. And I enjoy the occasional fast food burger, too. That's my perspective. If we're going to compare health and fitness statistics we can certainly do that, but I don't think you'd be able to prove your point that way.

And since we're apparently pimping out books we think are great, you can spend your time reading "The Omnivore's Dilemma."

I have to finish cooking my chicken stir fry.

She was all excited at first, until she realized it's a book about meat products being the devil.

If you're a vegan fine, but don't push your culture on us.

I don't hunt or fish, but whenever this crap pops up I'm ready to go shoot, gut, and fry up some meaty goodness.

 

I do hunt, and I do fish, so you can understand the revulsion with someone when they tell me it's somehow wrong or unhealthy. Every civilization that has had to provide for itself has prized an animal kill.

Whatever. I don't feel much sympathy for other humans, much less animals, so I'll just never see eye to eye with vegans.

 

Trust me, I understand. Almost all of my friends and family hunt. I've just never gotten into it.

 

i wonder why, when confronted with the specrtre of vegism, meat eaters freak out. personally i feel i'm the top of the food chain. i'll eat anything whether it walks, crawls , flies, or swims with the hair on or off. it's all in the preparation. i never feel threatend by vegans. more power to them. it leaves more for me.

 

It's not vegetarianism or veganism, per se. It's the attitude that my perspective is off, that I'm not informed about the health characteristics of my diet (or lack thereof).

Just look at the way that guy addressed me, and I think it should be pretty clear. I'd react the same way if someone told me I should only eat meat, because fruit is going to kill me one day, and I'm an idiot for not knowing it.

 

Personally, I'd like to see a Kosher for Passover Ferrari....

 

The Bible clearly states that man has domain over the animal kingdom. We have teeth for tearing meat. We are built to be carnivores.

When I met my girlfriend 10 months ago, she was a vegetarian. Honestly, she was a bit soft and flabby-kind of puffy. After we began dating, she began eating meat--actually, only poultry and fish. We both hardly ever eat beef or pork--just too fatty.

Now, she is a hardbody. Yes, we both work out, she always had, but once she began eating lean animal protein, her body changed for the better. Everybody has noticed. She's also more pleasant to be around!

As a conservative, I can't help but notice the correlation between liberalism and veganism. Are there any conservative vegans out there? It seems like an extreme way to make a statement against animal cruelty. Sorry, but my God gave me permission to eat animals, so I have zero guilt about it. They were put here to be under man's domain.
At the same time, I LOVE animals as pets, and cherish mine greatly. But animals DESIGNED to be consumed by humans, can and will, by me.

As far as wanting a vegan car, well, that's just ridiculous. Would you ride horseback, or is that against your beliefs? Do you walk in leather shoes? The questions could go on forever....

 

A true vegan would kill themselves, as their life causes harm to animals via the planet in general.

 

I must be from too far out in the sticks. I had to look at the title of this thread for a while and still couldn't figure out what the hell a vegan Ferrari was. Made out of food? The wooden F50? Progeny of a forgettable GM product? From a star 25 light years away? Made no sense to me. Then I read the first post and it still makes no sense, never in a million years would have come up with that explanation. Humans are omnivores and by definition, will eat whatever comes around. If you don't want to eat meat I guess that's ok, but asking for no animal products to be used in the production of your $200k car? Good luck with that. What about the ham sandwiches the line workers ate while assembling it?

 

The judgement is a bit thick here folks. There's nothing inherently "left" or self-righteous about someone choosing to be a vegan. It's just their choice and I think we all can agree that freedom is good.

Besides, veganism is a fast-growing market, well beyond the clichés of hippiedom. With cattle-raising being so taxing on many local environments, a leather-free interior for those inclined doesn't seem like much to ask.

 

This topic is so stupid. All the vegans I see drive cars.....what do those cars use for fuel? Dead dinosaurs. Practicing it because you want to is fine, but its those who demonize everyone else that doesn't is soo hypocritical.

 

There is a guy by the name of Anthony Bourdain who has a food show on the Travel Channel. He has a theory, which I like, regarding being a vegeterian/vegan. Being a vegetarian, except where dictated by religion, is a first world luxury. But hey, if you want to and have the means to have a meat free diet, that's fine by me.

I will say I usually don't get along with vegetarians/vegans though. Not because I have a problem with people who choose not to eat meat, but because they usually have a problem with people who like to hunt (which I do quite a bit). The right to eat only vegetables is not going to be taken away by hunters, but the right to hunt can be taken away by those that don't eat meat.

Definitely a good way to put it. I don't actually think the right it meat is in question, but I do think that vegans have more of a problem with meat-eaters than we do with them. I've certainly never found myself preaching the virtues of a meat-filled diet to anyone, but I've been on the receiving end of more than one rant about the imminent heart attack I'll suffer if I don't start chugging wheat grass hourly.

 

I don't make judgements on what people eat for the most part, unless you have to take up 3 chairs at the Old Country Buffet (seen it, can't erase the unpleasantness from my brain). But vegetarians as a whole tend to be relatively healthy so that isn't an issue. My problem is going out to eat, because it's so damn hard to go somewhere everyone is happy.

True story, we had a strict vegan consultant working with us a year ago (religious reasons, he was Hindu), and we flew to Houston for a vendor meeting. I know Texas is a bastion of veganism, but for some reason we had a hard time finding a good place to eat. So we ended up at Taste of Texas, one of my favorite steak places on the planet, with the Hindu consultant reluctantly tagging along. Once there, we all proceeded to devour huge chunks of perfectly roasted cow paired with a nice cabernet, while he made do with some lettuce from the salad bar and lemon water. In our defense, ToT has an unbelievable salad bar with all kinds of vegan-friendly stuff or so we rationalized. I just think he lost his appetite.

Back to topic, no a vegan Ferrari is not possible, no matter how you interpret the word.

I once had a business idea that I'm sure wouldn't go over very well with the Vegan crowd. It would be called "meat your seats". You could come to the farm and pick the cow that would eventually be your upholstery. Upon delivery of the car, it would come with steaks and other delicious treats from that same cow.

Now that is a million dollar idea!
