I was just forwarded an invite to this presentation.
This is the Poconos racetrack so many years in the making.
    6-9pm tomorrow night.
    Anybody going?

With competition in the area like Monticello & Millville - I'm wondering what they are going to be offering.

never heard of it but is this like a country club style track you can just be a member and go and race whenever you want? i remember talking to some club like this but they wanted 30k/year or something crazy to be a member.

I can't paste the invite....I'm guessing it's embedded HTML or such so I've asked the track to send me something I can paste here I'll put it up when I get it.

    Clyde,

I can't make it tomorrow night, but when you get the information, could you either post it here or email it to me? If you get some materials, I'd meet you for lunch one day. I'd like to find out what that place looks like and what kind of deals they are offering. NJMP was doing some really cheap deals, and "corporate" groups that were very attractive. Just too far away from me to make sense.

    Steve

Just checked their website. A bit pricey, but I guess you get what you pay for.

With other area tracks hurting and this economy in the toilet, I have to think they would be more than willing to work with folks.

I went last night. It was a great event. Very excited about this new track and also Liberty Bell which will both be opened in 2013. The Avenue A Club was amazing. Its like a museum.

Don't be too sure about the 2013 opening...this story has been told many times.

Everything is proposed and pending further investments. When the checks are signed and pavement is poured then get excited - otherwise you'll probably be waiting. It takes much longer than expected to build these facilities, especially with the weather we have in the PA/NJ/NY area...double the estimates.

AMP is one of the only facilities making progress and they are on schedule for a 2012 opening, garages are built, tracks are well on their way to completion...and they have 12 months of available construction time and weather has postponed them a lot this year.

For the sake of more track time, i hope these 2 tracks get built - but i'm not getting my hopes up for anything until asphalt smell is in the air :)

    Clyde,

If Mapquest found the right place (Saylorsburg, PA), it's just out past Stroudsburg. I make it from Morristown to Mt. Pocono in about an hour, give or take, depending on the traffic. From NYC, my guess would be under two hours, and from most of Northern NJ, an hour and a half or less, depending on where you are. It's a straight shot out Rt. 80 West.

I would have joined NJ Motorsport Park a couple of years ago, but it was a two and a half hour drive for me, especially trailering the car, assuming no traffic or construction. That meant at least one night's stay, if not two, for a track event. But this new place, I could drive there for the day and turn around and be home that evening. Looks like maybe 15-20 minutes past the Delaware Water Gap.

Very interesting. Have to check it out.

Any more details about this? What is Avenue A club? This has been in planning for a long time. I muse about the implications for more tracks. On one hand, it is great to have more venues. On the other hand, more tracks dilutes the economics of each individual track, which are already not great. On the other other hand, maybe more tracks ultimately increases size of overall market by making track events/racing more accessible to more people. I wonder.
