My dad is currently in the market for a 996 Turbo, and has a particular interest in already modded ones. One that he is looking at right now is modded by AMS(http://tinyurl.com/3jb357f). What companies should be avoided?

I have modded my fair share of Porsche's including three 996's, not sure what your dad is looking for. Common mods on those cars besides exhausts were larger turbos, flywheels, and of course ECU tuning (GIAC did most of that back when I had mine) make sure the diverter valves were done, the stock ones were not that good. SSK is manditory hated the throw without it. Just one more bit of advise turn it into RWD then you have a monster, oh and I would never buy any car that was modded unless I knew the owner and the history

Once you mod the turbos/ intercooler/ chip it does not matter if its X-50 or not.
IMO if you are going to go modded 996TT stick with Ruf .Everything else is a hot-rodded Turbo.

A Ruf car will always have more credibility in the workmanship and in the resale than any other shop. Let someone else take the $ depreciation hit.
    Myself ?
I would buy a bone stock GT2. They only made a thousand worldwide.

When you learn to squeeze out every % of its ability then look for the next thing.
My guess; Unless you own a track it aint going to happen.
