Fabspeed parts made in Taiwan?

I think this is part of the problem. How many miles do headers/exhaust systems receive on Ferraris? IMO, not nearly enough to expose quality issues. So, because Ferraris don't get driven daily and because headers are very expensive, it would be nice to know what exactly we are getting for the money.

 

Well a better question should be posed to Ferrari owners with Fabspeed headers. How many miles have you put on since installing them, how many years have they been on your car?
If someone did have a problem, how did Fabspeed handle it?

Unfortunately with any aftermarket upgrade, unless you buy the part and get it installed at the same place, and are lucky enough to live in close proximity, you will normally not get any kind of labor warranty.

The sad thing is here that we are discussing options to fix a Ferrari well known defect. We should be spending more time putting pressure on Ferrari to fix their horribly designed headers, instead of picking on the companies that have designed a fix.

 

I just want to be clear here, because some of the comments made have really gotten under my skin.

I do not like the insinuation that parts of my Ferrari are made in Taiwan.

EVERYBODY knows that Ferraris are made by the finest craftsman in the world, in little workshops in the Italian countryside, using a mixture of fairy dust and the dreams of little children.

Most people who replace ferrari manifolds aren't doing it because they're defective. And these companies didn't design a fix for them. Eliminating precats and therefore making them no longer street legal isn't a fix. It's a performance enhancement.

 

I think you are mistaken. Many posts I have seen from owners change their headers because they know at some point they will fail. Some owners change them for the extra noise, but on a 360, there is not really any performance gain under 7k rpm. The F430 sees bigger gains everywhere with aftermarket headers. Do some 360 owners change them because they think they will get a performance gain, yes, but dyno tests show otherwise. 2nd, even if you change headers, you still have the secondary cat or even a sport cat in the mid section, so aftermarket headers do not make a Ferrari non street legal. Now add test pipes, and yes, you are not street legal, and no you won't pass an emissions test.

 

Yeap totally agree with you for this one...Taiwan manufacturing and engineering is much more closer to the US...But now Mainland China is closing too...lets said " u have money and u can get any quality in Mainland china too'..There is nothing wrong getting Mainland China,Taiwan ROC,Asia,or SE Asia products thou...well in America 95% products are made by the Chinese we cant run away with it ... Lot of wheels manufacturer also doing the same things too...

 

Yes I agree and find it amazingly disrespectful that many posters are not able to undersand that Taiwan and China are different countries. Heck if I kept referring to Mexico when I should have said America, I would be slaughtered via the internet.

So come on guys, please stop with the incorrect references to China BS.

BTW: You guys do realise that Harley Davidson's are made outside of America now, and from where I sit "Made in America" does not imply anything to do with quality (and ditto for "Made in Australia").

For consumer electronics and children's shoes, Made in USA doesn't mean much, except to increase the price of goods unnecessarily. For manufactured and hand assembled parts (like these headers) Made in USA means something, at least to me.

 

I'm shocked.

Ferrari made a low quality set of headers for the F430, plenty of failures, bad quality, period.

I have yet to read or know about a FabSpeed set of headers for the F430 failing as the factory ones do.

I have used FabSpeed products in my Boxster and 996 GT3, and the quality of their products was much better than what I got OEM from Porsche and their German engineering (not so German as my Cayman was made in Finland).

I do care about where products are manufactured. Taiwan has a long history of good quality manufacturing, Mainland China, not so much, ethics/quality/workmanship/loyalty in mainland China manufacturing is down the toilet, too many experiences on my field of expertise to support this statement.

FabSpeed tests the products they sell, if their products don't provide a quality and performance advantage, they won't sell them to you. They sell a quality product.

My Scuderia has Capristo headers, because they offered the headers with the insulation jacket. If FabSpeed could offer their headers with the insulation jacket for a Scuderia, I would have strongly considered FabSpeed headers instead.

The attached picture is from my Capristo Scuderia headers. Notice the difference of the air rails finish compared to the the actual headers. After the fact welding? probably and very likely. Check the quality of welds, I have seen Honda S2000 headers ( I had two of this wonderful cars) with a smoother finish than my Capristo headers.

However, I'm satisfied with the quality of my Capristo headers, and I have been satisfied with the quality of my FabSpeed products.

I cannot justify how Ferrari produces such a bad quality exhaust system (headers, catalytic converters casing, and mufflers) compared to small companies like Joe's FabSpeed shop and Andrea's Capristo shop.

I hate to say this but you'd be shocked at how many people ask me how Japan is when I tell them I'm going to Hong Kong.

I was in Hong Kong during the last quake and I got a rash of emails asking if I was OK. I replied, well, the quake is in northern Japan -- about as far away from me as LA is to New York. So, I guess I'll be OK!

Taiwan's version of Silicon Valley (HSINCHU SCIENCE PARK) is amazing. I go there about twice a year. It's impressive how many IC factories and hi tech industries are there. It's a wonderful place to do business and the people are kind, hard working, respectful of others, well educated, pro-western (they love America), and very polite.

Has it been confirmed that Fabspeed plied their customers with the notion that these are made in the USA?

 

I purchased sport CAT and headers from FABspeed, it says on the box and ouside label Made in USA.

 

Maybe it was just the box and label that were made in the USA.

I think the guys who are saying this whole issue doesn't matter and we should move on are misunderstanding the thread.

From my perspective the quality of the product or it's country of origin is not the issue. The product will stand on it's own, many people have the product and are happy - that is fine, if it wasn't up to the job I'm sure we would hear about the problems and then we would all make up our minds based on it's ability to do the job. The fact that it is made in Taiwan is again not really the point since as many have said we live in a global economy and parts are sourced from all over the world - it meets a price point in the market due to it's manufacturing. That is also fine.

It is only the claim that the product is hand produced in the USA that is causing many of us to get very excited.

This is a sponsor started thread where the first post contains the line 'hand made in the USA'. Now if this isn't true which from the evidence posted by many people would now seem to be the case then this is a blatant lie purely for monetary gain and/or higher sales volumes - presumably we can agree that 'most' people will be happy to pay more for a US product or at least choose the US product in preference - if Fabspeed don't believe the 'hand made in USA' isn't important then why say it.

As I have said above this is nothing to do with the product, many people have the product and are happy, purely a sponsor using their promotional threads to mislead people on this and other forums about where the product is produced to allow them to charge a higher price point or gain higher sales volumes.

What we need is Fabspeed to make a statement, both for the sake of their existing customers, prospective customers and the sanity of the rest of us!

I have it from a very reliable source that their packaging does indeed read, "Made in the USA" on a sticker on the box.

I wonder what might be hiding UNDER that sticker?

I just have to ask one question. When you bought your Fabspeed headers, did you get your monies worth? did you get a product that meets or exceeds your expectations?

What burns me up is this:

Up till now all I have read on this site is how good the fabspeed products are. How good the quality is, how much cheaper the price, and how good the customer service is. everyone glowing how cheap they are and how good the quality. No one, not one customer that I have look at on the posts and you can look back have said how great it is that they are 100% made in USA.

Now you find out that Possibly the products are not all made in Pennsylviania and it now becomes a really big problem?

I really don`t know what the truth is here as the original poster has not posted since. I have seen some invoices and a lot of accusations. I really don`t like how Jeff @ fabspeed was setup at the begining of this thread (that could have been done in a more civil manner). I still have a lot of questions and I so far have not seen any solid proof of anything yet. anyone can say anything here.

F430gt makes a perfect point and I think that is mostly all the point.

Now I am not saying to just move on, you can make it part of your buying criteria on your next exhaust purchace or if you really feel cheated, their are other avenues for that. I am just making the point not to jump to the assumption that they went out of their way to decieve you in your exhaust purchace.

BTW, Joezaff, I get my cookies from a keebler elf in a tree across the canadian border....and they are really, really good.

The quality of their product is not the issue.

The quality of their information, and their advertising is.

If I sold you a Ferrari, told you it was made in Italy, and you found out that it was in fact manufactured in Taiwan, would you have an issue with that?

MADE IN THE USA carries cache value. Using it without being able to support it is disingenuous at the least, and anyone who does this does it at their own peril.

That's the issue. Not the quality of the product, the apparent dishonesty of the manufacturer.

And I say apparent because so far they really haven't done anything here ti dissuade us of the notion that they're not being totally above board here.

Perhaps they no longer import parts. In which case they should say so. Perhaps they do still import parts, but QC them here and warranty them as such. also safe to disclose and not a deal breaker. Just time to man up and share, in my opinion, the facts about their products.

When we started tearing my car down to figure out everything they'd messed up, turned out the set they installed in thier super duper PA facility was a set of new tubes welded to a recycled stock flange with the air holes welded shut, this according to Josh at ECS who did the work. Apparently a few of the bolts were left finger tight as well. So, uh, no. I didn't get what I paid for initially. I demanded a replacement set with air rails. The set Josh received seemed nice enough, was perfectly happy with them. But I definitely felt like they tried to slip one past me.
