I finally sourced some airbox covers in carbon.

The weave is nice and tight - looks lovely.

The inside is failry tidy - I've see some cheaper versions that look a mess inside.

Here's the weight if anyone's interested.

And here we are fitted on the car.

I like the attachment of these particular covers - almost looks OEM. Cheaper versions usually have a long length of silicon hose where they fit to the MAF.

Me too on the airbox covers, I have been looking for someone to make them without using the red silicon extentions.

Your photos are cute, did everyone raise their rear hatch in that one photo to emulate the Diablo 6.0's jack knife doors?

The covers came off eBay - I've been looking for ages for a pair and these finally popped up. I've got no idea who made them though...

We raise the rear hatch to let some of the heat escape from the engine bay. It was 32-35 celcius (which is v.hot for us Brits) and we were pushing hard so it made sense to try and cool the cars off whenever we could.

Very nice CF boxes, do you feel power gain, or sounds better, with those babies.

I didn't deal with them myself. Did you phone them?

Thank you. I've only started the engine briefly to check for air leaks so cannot say. I'm out on track tomorrow (if the weather holds up) so can report back then but I doubt I'll hear any difference as the Timate exhaust is so loud!!

They look exactly like the Fabspeed carbon airboxes, but with different end connections. Wonder where they come from?

FYI the " meister 360Trev " suggested in one of his posts to lightly sand the interior of the air boxes in order to smooth out imperfections ( and loose a couple of micro-grams ...we know Trev and weight !

The boxes look great, you will notice a deeper intake sound.

Sadly I have no idea where they came from guys. I asked the seller but he said they were sold to him by his workshop many years ago and he doesn't know the manufacturer.

I had the car out on track two days ago but the Timate is too loud to detect and change in intake sound!

    Hey Aldous,

Which tracks (Uk?) allowed you on with a Timate!!! :)

... I'd resigned myself to only enjoying tracks abroad due to over excessive UK noise regs.. :(

Hi Mate - I was at Brands Hatch but we had special dispensation ;) I measured 111db - Chris's Enzo hit 129db and he was only allowed out at lunchtime!

    Hi Aldous

Heres a pic of the rear bumper CS grill against a standard Modena one. You can see there is a big difference and they are very similar to the round pattern on the rear challenge grill holes.

I will pop this spare one of mine in the post to you to have a look at and hopefully clone at a reasonable price than that Ferrari charge for a set.

P.S Prosport do a pattern copy of these CS version, slightly cheaper than stock. Not sure on quality though as never actually seen theirs up close.

The switches for the electric windows were an absolute state.

I bought some second hand switches but they weren't too hot either (the originals are at the top).

    Image Unavailable, Please Login

As I had a back up pair I thought I'd have a hack at refurbishing the originals. First up I seperated the swiches.

I then carefully peeled off the sticky goo. It turns out that the goo is clear and my worries about the decal were nothing to be worried about anyway. The decal is not a decal, it's a translucent window that allows the backlight to come through. If you're careful you can peel the goo off and leave good plastic behind.

I discovered one of the bulbs that light up the decal was out. Here it is:

I replaced the bulb with a standard R286 bulb and reused the green cover.

    As usual great job Voicey.

How did you refurbish them, just peeling off the goo or did you airbrush them?

    Thanks

Thank you for the kind comments.

A while back I noticed that the CS has slightly different grills in the rear bumper - the strad items have circular holes that match the rear grill. At £270 a set they weren't top of my upgrade list but I did have a think about making my own set. I was lucky enough to be loaned a CS grill (thanks Scott) so got to work.

Here are the two types - CS on the left, standard on the right.

    Image Unavailable, Please Login

The CS grils are made from Alu and offer a slight weight saving.

The CS grills are made from perforated sheet - 3mm holes with a 5mm pitch (32% open area). I managed to buy an offcut in Alu for about £12.

    All marked up:

I cut out the piece with a diamond cutting wheel on the dremel

I wasn't going to try and make the surround so I used the ones off some old grills. I chopped out the mesh:

And then ground and polished off the spot welds from the back:

The old surround and new mesh:

As I was joining alu to steel I bonded them together using a 2 part epoxy resin specifically for metals:

The old paint removed from the surround:
