Well... here is another DIY project. Since I've learned a lot from all of the posts on how to, I thought I should contribute to this sight with my experience, and hopefully get some helpful information on things that may be challenging. I am not a mechanic, and this will be my first restore project. But I am not afraid to venture into the unknown. The rewards are priceless.I will be posting pictures as I go. Here's one to get things going.

My car is a 1975 308 GT4. I do have one question. Where can I get information on torque specifications?

    Well, hello there neighbor!

Feel free to ask me any and all questions you might have throughout the process.

I won't have the answers, but you should have AT LEAST one person to hear your questions.

Good luck, and I look forward to seeing progress. Maybe at the end of all of these threads we can cobble together a GT4-specific set of repair pages.

Wow... I love you people... Thank you for the warm welcome, and I hope I don't dissapoint. And Thank you Gerrit for the info. There is some great information. Well, before we start, here she is and her house. I actually built up the garage before I bought the car. And when I drove her in, It was fantastic.

Wow Sinbad! You've got some pretty big huevos to take all those parts off of your car all at once! I prefer to take on smaller projects on mine that I know I can complete in a reasonable amount of time, and it still seems to take forever. Your car looks to be a worthwile project. Please keep posting pics. I loved the one of the mouse-chewed tennis ball. Where did you find it? I probably have one in my GT4 too!

fantastic......and the garage is amazing :)

the control arms are like my old mustangs LOL
i ended up using a product rust-mort (basically muriatic acid) to stop the rust and the pitting of the steel, it worked the best IMO then primed and painted the parts, with no rust through after
for the heavy grease, i used sometimes diesel + mr.clean, and also simple-green worked well, once the heavy crap was scrapped off

good luck, love to see it when all completed

Joe, I know what you mean. But sometimes the madness takes over, you go nuts. Plus I wanted to do everything at once. You know, the parts talk to each other. And I don't want the brakes looking at the newly painted A-arms, with those beautiful new bushings, next to the majestic towering new shocks, and be jealous. And who know, if they get in a really bad mood, they just might do something crazy. Besides, I am down there, I MIGHT AS WELL.
The ball was between the spare tire compartment and the undercarriage.
Garnet, Thanks for the tip. Going to look into it.

Marvel Mystery oil and kerosene mixed 50/50 works great as a degreaser and is much less likely to cause a fire. be sure not to leave solvent soaked rags in any large piles as they can combust and burn .

Amazing garage...l did the same with my GT4 although l did the front first..then after that was completed l did the rear. Will you be replacing the shocks? The fronts are readily abailable as they are the same as GTB/S but the rears are NLA,which means you will have to get them overhauled.

Here I also decided to do it myself. The rack was in pretty good condition. There was no play, and no wear on the gears. So I decided to clean it up and repack it with new grease. I used Redline CV-2 grease. I rigged up a serange that my Dad had a supply of when after his surgery he had to feed himself with a serange through his stomach. I knew it will come in handy some day. Again, the disassembly was pretty simple. In my opinion this is the only time to remove the steering rack, with everything off. Otherwise it could be a nightmare.

I used one of these clips from Home Depot that actually work pretty good. I also used two aircraft tie straps, that you can't get anywhere accept at this amazing place in Burbank CA called Luky's. http://lukyshardware.com/ She has the most amazing assortment of aircraft hardware, and every kinds of nuts and bolts that you can think of. These straps have a stainless steal clip on the inside. You kind of can see it in the picture.
