Well now there saying most flight should be up by tomorrow arvo, and there losing $20M a day if the grounding continues.
There's so much at stake, there internation too, but they make there money through domestic travel more than overseas flights.
Suprised they haven't taken over yet, mean while virgin is making a name for them selves with extra flight scrambled cause of the caous the bozo caused.
When frustrated by anything within the air transportation system...Get comfortable, close your eyes and consider every single detail had your grandad make the same trip 100 years ago. Use every delay to de-stress and rest up. Mentally researching a novel about grandad imaginary travel experiences, flesh out everything you see today, visualizing how it was back then, focusing on the methods and time taken. We are totally spoilted, expecting instant everything and efficient workers. Lower your expecteations. This technique worked well for me n the 1970s when I flew the globe on business weekends of 7 months/year for 6 years. Before miles were issued, I flew coach per year > US-Europe (4), US-Asia(2), US >> US(1-2) hearing so many complain about loosing 2 hours on a trip which would take our fore bearers 2 months. Arrgh - try this appreciation technique to get there more refreshed. Yes, it's human nature, but try not to focusi on things which don't go your way.
Until something goes wrong, and then you had better hope there is someone up the pointy end that really knows their ****. Perfect example not so long ago when that Qantas jumbo exploded an engine through the wing and various other essential bits and bobs. Everyone on that plane was very lucky they had the skills up front that day.
Cathay's economy was designed for majority of asians (short legs), so sliding foward wouldn't make much difference in terms of leg room. but I can't stand sitting for a long time without my back being supported, and my leg always hits the front chair when it's extended. I usually fly eastern air (if i go to SH), since it's a direct flight. but if i have to fly cathay, find the right time and right promotion, biz class can get to a very reasonable price
This whole debacle typifies what's wrong with 'business' these days - when the CEO wants a whopping pay rise, the company is doing great despite historically low share price; when the staff want any pay rise they're "going broke", and when the law has to step in to sort out a s**tfight, the punters bid the price up. Huh?
Whopping pay rise maybe, but they did more than double net profit last year and his remuneration is 2% of profit. Doing great? Qantas International is making a loss and it's going to get worse due to the rising cost of labour and inability to compete with lower cost international carriers
I'm told most of the international loss is nothing to do with running costs but the offset loss of the 388's.
exactly. Hope the unions and their members get screwed. None of these ****ers have obviously ever had to run a business. Bunch of desperados trying to hang on to archaic 30 year old work practices that are just not sustainable. The great unwashed are showing support for the unions but how many of them will pay for a Qantas (more expensive) fare vs other carriers? Pilots aren't much better. Joyce claimed average 747 pilot is on $500k/yr for 12 hrs work a week, like WTF?
That is amazing. Surely they fly more than 12 hrs a week, but either way that is fantastic money they earn.
Toyota was another example. With the GFC and then the Tsunami in Japan Toyota here in Melbourne did everything they could to look after their employees during those difficult times. A few months later with their short memories, what did the unions and employees do, go on strike asking for more money. I'm glad Joyce called the unions bluff and did to them what they continue to do to others.
Why these guys deserve big bucks: http://www.theage.com.au/travel/travel-incidents/bellylanding-airline-pilot-rejects-hero-tag-20111103-1mwx1.html Fantastic airmanship. The landing was so smooth that apparently some pax thought they landed with landing gear fully retracted and locked.
But the amount the Qantas guys are getting compared to say Virgin/Jetstar and US pilots is ridiculous. One of my best mates is a senior Qantas captain and he is quite open about acknowledging how the good they have it. It is a bit of a closed shop as well with a smattering of nepotism
