    as I've said before put a domestic US pilot on board and pay him half of what the Qantas pilots gets.
    I prefer the American pilots as many of them have combat experience,my fav are the ones whom have taken of from carriers,you can always pick them as your pilot.

    Yes, the QF international senior captains, especially the 'Pacific Barons' have it very good indeed, but I'll bet that no one on board that QF A380 when all hell broke loose begrudged those guys that sort of money.*

    Also, it's only the most senior captains on that money, it's certainly not the average wage of a QF pilot (as I understand it). I would also add that if those same QF pilots were flying greater hours (which is the flipside of being more poorly paid: airlines want more for less- pilot fatigue, attrition (skill/brain drain) and low morale are MASSIVE crewing issues for airlines such as Jetstar and Emirates- remember the Melbourne A340-600 tail scrape?), could that QF A380 mess have had a different conclusion?

    QF have had some mighty near misses, but never due to crew error- it's due to the old bangers that QF operates (another eg of poor management- QF's fleet planning/management is woeful). The same cannot be said for Jetstar, Emirates, etc.

    Given the risks and implications, I'd rather err on the side of caution and ensure that any pilots flying an aircraft carrying me and/or my family are happily overpaid, underworked, but overskilled... Just in case the **** ever hits the fan(blade).*

    I'd also add that some of the incompetence and general **** ups demonstrated by some US pilots over years and the near misses by JetStar and Tiger (mainly due to pilot fatigue and running airlines on the smell of an oily rag- including overworking fatigued aircrew who are relatively poorly paid and have poor job satisfaction) are not the ideals airlines and the flying public should be aspiring to. My understanding that morale at Jetstar, for example, is horrendously poor. Why? Relatively low pay and max duty hours which all leads to fatigue, burn out and resentment.

    Re. nepotism, yes, I'm aware of the unofficial father/son rule (one well known intl QF flight many years ago was famously crewed by a father as *captain, eldest son as f/o and youngest son as s/o), but I know of sons who didn't make the grade and were not hired as QF pilots regardless of their pedigree/connections.*

    Sorry for long, rambling post- it's an ssue I feel strongly about! :)

    I too have flown thousands of miles over the years. Just thought I'd mention the smoothest landing I've ever experienced was a Virgin flight into Sydney by a female pilot.

    The scariest flight believe it or not was landing at the old airport at Hong Kong on a windy day, not the emergency landing after an engine failure.

    Hmmmm, interesting! One of the best landing I've ever experienced was a Virgin flight to OOL captained and flown by a female. Wonder if it's the same one! LOL Was an absolute greaser.

    Mate, I hopped on a propeller plane in Greece on Christmas day when I was about 19, blowing a gale and runway iced over. Scariest flight I've had and took me several years to get comfortable flying again. Pilot did well though, think he was on about 10 drachmas an hour :p
