The FF is better looking than the Fury wagon in certain colors, and better in snow, but the Plymouth has the edge on passenger capacity.

I had posted some time ago that I expected a rash of FF lookalikes from the prestige Japanese brands, but I didn't think the first lookalike would come from Fisker:

I think I might have been picking on their engineering, not styling, ie. Alfa Romeo for example used the same engine for 50 years.

The FF, actually no modern Ferrari is elegant, except maybe the 458. The F430 was not a styling success ... in my opinion :).

Speaking about Alfa Romeos, the music of a Busso was great. No need for a change.

But who said that elegant is always good. The F40 was not elegant, Sam Peckinpah films were not elegant and many Goya paintings were not elegant. And who cares.

I like the FF because it´s a slap in the face of a type of car which has remained mostly unchanged since the 60´s. For me, the FF styling is even too elegant. I´d prefer something like the old Lamborghini Espada.

The FF is actually quite nice in person. Its definitely an elegant vehicle, but I think there's only like 3-4 regions in the world where this car can be realistically used.

Please elaborate! Can't you use a 4WD 4 seat sports car with considerable trunk space in many place? I'm just interested in your point!

    Your opinion is correct.

I think the 458 managed to reduce the bulk of the 360/F430 nicely. I wouldn't call it an all-time classic, but call it one of the better efforts from the Age of Plastic.

I think we have also moved past the point of designing everything to look like it did in the 60s. That gets and has become very boring

It's actually the opposite, the FF can be utilized just about everywhere. That's the beauty of AWD and a usable rear seat.

Thats really what it boils down to, looking at the past or looking at the future using select styling elements from the past, the air intake on the 430 inspired by the sharknose F1 car, the rear intakes inspired by the 250 LM. For me the 458 brings a few elements from the Dino. The FF, well its true measure is the one off Chinetti Daytona Shoot break, look at that and again there are some proportional styling elements.

Looks will always be subjective, well in my opinion anyway. ;)

I think most people have assume that Ferrari assumes that 2 + 2's are something like "necessary concessions. Nothing could be further from the truth if you look at Enzo Ferrari himself. He drove mostly 2 + 2's during the time that he actually drove. Writers have documented repeatedly that Enzo himself clearly said that a 2 seater "wasn't enough." Why? Ferrari like to take his dog with him when he drove. In the early days he took Dino on long, fast drives. He's even depicted in the movie driving an early 365/400.
    Why? Again, practicality.

Most people here aren't going to buy both a two place and a four place Ferrari, ego, a four place as the one Ferrari you own apparently isn't going to be enough, at least psychologically. Ferrari the company would love for you to by an FF and a 458, and there are some who do.

Really tiresome....."I hate it," "I love it," "You're wrong," "That's your opinion," it's endless and ridiculous. Many of those who scream the loudest couldn't drive a go-kart at the limit, but think so highly of their opinions.

It's a wonderful, well-design, and highly purposed car. Some of you who think you know what Ferrari 'should' be doing....go learn Maya Mudbox and let's see your design, it's a software tool more than adequate to translate your superior design into a graphic that you can upload right on this thread. I'm anxious to see....just hit the "manage attachments" button and enlighten us.

If I absolutely have to pick a 2+2 f-car, it would be the 612. Minus the 4wd, they are both functionally similar imo. I personally feel that a sportscar needs a proper "butt".

And back to the thread's title "were we all wrong about the ff", if we need to ask a question like this, chances are there is enough negativity surrounding it and we are probably trying to justify it's existence.

Having said that, I like the front. Just not a fan of the rear. And while I have not driven one, I'm sure it's a heck of a drive. Last but not least, I like all things Ferrari :)

Having driven several over hundreds of miles, and having a decent knowledge and experience of many Ferraris, i can assure all that it is an amazingly balanced car, with an exceptional front end (only criticism is that the steering lacks a certain "feel" as with the 458), it has amazing grip and it's agility belies it's size. The engine is simply exceptional and the fact that you can transport 4 life-sized adults in relative comfort is astounding.

Mine will be delivered next week, so watch this space for more news...

As to the design, well, every "controversial" Ferrari has gone on to become a successful icon...

As much as we all (some secretly) desire to have people look at our car and say "Wow, that's gorgeous", isn't it far more important that WE feel good about it? Honestly, if someone else's opinion is going to sway your own, you've got different issues. Buy what you love and what makes you feel good. I love the California and really couldn't care less what others think, so long as it made me feel good to own and drive.

I'm sure as the FF is reviewed, it will be deemed a "true" Ferrari, whatever the hell that means. Ferrari has created some astonishingly gorgeous cars in the past but, honestly, aesthetics simply don't seem to be very important to them, or at least not nearly as important as performance, which is exactly where there priorities should lie.

What I love about this board is that there is very little snobbery ... people have opinions but are generally very respectful of other people's choices. I have opinions also, but unless asked, I generally keep criticism to myself. And I dare speculate that nobody who would own an FF would have no other cars in their garage. So, really, they probably have a sports car, an SUV, a suitably luxurious daily driver and then the FF to fulfill some of those various roles. If you can afford this car (and all of those others) you really aren't thinking that you can buy a 458 and some other car, or you can buy a Panamera and save a ton of money.

I'm not sure what the market is going to be for this car, or who the "typical" buyer would be, but I'd be willing to bet anything that it sells out for the foreseeable future.

Not a thing here I disagree with. Very well said!

However, I personally don't like the looks of the FF, so I won't be buying one.

By all accounts, it's a fantastic car in terms of performance, handling, drivability - everywhere it counts. I'm not about to tell someone else not to get one, or to question their motives or taste. It's definitely a Ferrari . . . I just wish that I liked its looks better.

    But that's just my opinion.
