Funny, never heard it called that before. I've always known it as the Colonial Cup. It's amazing what just a $500 sponsorship will buy.

    [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rx2JBEaKYWo&feature=related[/ame]

Apparently it also gave him the right to send unsolicited material to the FCA members. I was there when David Scott started getting complaints from the club members.
And when he politely asked Mr. Hedges to stop, he not only refused, but also said that David should have been helping him and not them (FCA members). He also told
David that it was rude of him to ask him to stop.

I think using the FCA lists for marketing purposes is a big no-no. Marc? David?

Fake smile after every sentence...creepy to me. Maybe it's just me, and maybe because I am already biased, but there seems to be a lot of arrogance coming off this guy in the videos. Which matches his post here for sure...and his message to Rob about suing the globe. And emailing people from a Ferrari Club list...is he a member of the Ferrari Club of America?

I think I will stop reading this thread...it's starting to really annoy me. Oh, and on the eVite, it lists my name and email address for EVERYONE on the invite list to see...I guess I'll be getting more spam before too long.

Gil stated: "I can forward the eVite he sent me...to which I replied NO...and asked to be removed from his email list. It bugs me that he used a Ferrari Club list to solicit business...just seems like shady marketing to me."

I also recieved the invitation and did the same as Gil.

I have NEVER been a member of a local Ferrari club and will NEVER because of people like this, SERIOUSLY, I have been to lots. - D Bag's EVERYWHERE trying to sell you something or to find out who has money to invest in their failing real estate projects.

    I have said it before.

    http://ferrarichat.com/forum/showpost.php?p=140871575&postcount=220

The FIRST question they ask is "What do you do"....Then they try to buddy up and get you to invest in something. 6 of them from my town are in jail for fraud.

Chip, I understand that there are bad apples in every group but I have met some extraordinary individuals in the FCA and on Fchat and have developed friendships that I'm truly proud of. If that means weeding through the riff raff it is well worth it. That's what I call life.
Remember what this thread is about. It is not to attack but protect club members.

Man, If I could get out of my mechanics shop for less than $1500 I am a happy man, especially with a laundry list like this one.

I brace myself and if it comes under $1500 I feel like I got the deal of the century. Pay the man and get on with your life. You have gotten more than $900 worth of bad press here, the truth usually works in your favor. You could wash cars, sweep up around the shop, take out garbage, something to work it off. Be creative!

I'm late to the thread here and have read through all of it. I think the posts speak for themselves so I have little to add there despite having interacted with both Karl and Kevin.

To answer a prior question...Yes, Kevin did join FCA in '08 and expired this year. He was pretty active at club events during that period as I know I saw him several times.

As for FCA lists, I get asked about this all the time. We do not send out membership lists to anyone for reasons precisely like this one. At events, I don't distribute attendee lists either. Upon request, I have occasionally given an attendee the names of the people he just met at an event since connecting faces with names is part of socialization and this is a very social club. All in all, we're very mindful of the need for privacy but also accommodating to people who we know aren't just their to mine the contacts they make. We also use BCC in emails to members and any instance where that hasn't happened would've been a simple accident. I think that happened once a few years ago.

That said, with Kevin having gone to quite a few events he would have met a lot of people, made friends, exchanged cards, etc. Over the course of a few of those events you could easily figure out how to contact most people if you were trying to do as Kevin did.

Unfortunately Kevin was clearly getting involved with FCA for business purposes and he turned out to not be very subtle about it.

I was among those he solicited for both wealth management and for business related to the public company I'm involved with, i.e. secondary offerings, etc. I recall that he has really pushing a stock called RMCP when it was $1. I declined to get involved and eventually had to tell him to just stop the calls but I did put it on my list of stocks to follow and it went down like the next week to $0.50 and has stayed in the $0.29 range for quite some time.

Anyway, Kevin seemed like a nice enough guy but he was involved in the club for non-Ferrari reasons and he was off base to solicit members, nevermind soliciting them so aggressively.

I have yet to attend any Club functions in SC, and I have lived her more than 6 years. The last Club function I attended was in Reading, PA perhaps 10 years ago. When I lived in FL, I attended one or two non-Club cookouts. I attended the Cavallino Classic a couple times as well. At no time did I ever provide anyone with my card, email, or telephone number, except people I knew. I never met Kevin, so there was no way for him to attain my contact information OTHER than to troll through the Club list. But, his email address is now marked as spam, and I will never seek his assistance.

If his membership expired, he should not be emailing members for any reason. Again, just my $0.02...which I'm going to hide under my mattress.

Well it would indeed be a mystery then how he got your email. Sorry, can't explain it. Maybe he was a recipient of the accidental CC email from a few years back.

As for emailing members, he really shouldn't be doing that whether his membership is current or not.

First, to Kevin, you are a wealth manager? I say "Pay your bills, dude."

Second, to Kevin, if you are going to solicit the management of my money, I prefer guys who shave when they wake up in the morning. Putting on a suit with a 5:00 o'clock shadow is a sign of laziness or vanity, or both--neither of which I'd like to see in my money manager. And the "voucher" for $250 consultation is--we all know--a scam to get people in the door, so you can charge them more.

Third, to F-Chat in general . . . I moved to Charleston 8 years ago, and ER&R (and Karl) started working my cars. He has proven himself to be of the highest work ethic and character of ANY person who has ever worked on my cars. He has worked on 2 Mercedes, 2 BMWs, and 2 Range Rovers for me. Each time his work was better than the local Mercedes/Rover dealer and his work was much less expensive than the dealer When my wife's Rover went out of warranty, I immediately turned to Karl for all the work on that car. I can't tell you the times he has gone above and beyond the call of duty with my cars-and with a Range Rover, you know what I mean.

This debate is an easy call on who is right. Its like a guy brought a pea shooter to a gun fight. AnD when I googled the address on Kevin's web page--Appling Drive . . . is that an apartment or an office? It looks like an apartment--a wealth manager that doesn't own his own home, and works out of an apartment? I'll pass.

And, Kevin, let me guess . . . in the Hedges Wealth Management Horse Races, I'll bet that Secretariat beat Seattle Slew and Affirmed by 5 lengths. Right?

Dude, you can't even tell the truth about horse races--how do we expect you to tell the truth about this?

I hear you, one comment the other night from a guy at a bar was that he had the only 458 in town, I know of 7 (none are members or want to be), it's just the pompous attitudes that turn me off, seems to go for several people I know.

I appreciate you saying something about it, I'll take a look at my attitude towards it and give it another shot, it would be nice to have fun and not be on a list to buy or invest in something when I leave, I always walk out checking to see if I'm still wearing underwear.

For me one benefit of this thread is the many accolades I have seen for Karl Troy. Being from FL I don't know Karl, but the more I read the more I am impressed. Clearly he has a strong following and support from other car guys here.

I was a co-organizer for a the Ferrari Cup Challenge, the big event held at the Grove Park in '07 and '10. As Raider1968 noted we raised $50k for the Special Ops Warrior Foundation. [And thank you Raider for the multiple times you have hosted our group...you and Margeret are the best!!] I did meet Kevin Hedges and now I am on his "hit" list. But that was purely my doing as I gave him my card. I just ignore the repeated texts, messages and emails as I have no need to consult him for any financial business.

Now that my wife and I have built a summer home in the NC mtns maybe I will run into Karl at one of the events up there. I have met so many great people in NC and SC through these Ferrari events that I already feel at home. I plan to hold an event up in Blowing Rock in the future. Maybe I can convince Karl to join in!

Chip, I thank you for seeing my post for what it was. This reminds me of a comment I made to my wife many years ago. We have been married for more than 21 years. My first and her second marriage. I once jokingly told her that I was glad she had been married before. Otherwise how could she really appreciate me.
Soon after saying that I realized that there is some serious truth in that statement. How can any of us appreciate the good things and special people in our lives unless we have experienced the not so good. If all you experience is good you can not realize it's true value. So go out there, be part of the Ferrari crowd and take the good with the bad. You'll come to find out that there a some serious gems in the FCA that will quickly make you forget about the ones that don't fit in.

SCantera, thank you for the kind words. A lot of wisdom has been shared throughout this thread and it shows what a tight knit community the FCA and Fchat are.

I don't get out a whole lot as I work a lot (which is what I love) and don't take enough time to smell the roses. When I was still racing I travelled a lot but it was challenging. Leaving the shop on friday evening, driving until 3AM, unload in the morning and by 8:30 have the car ready to go as fast as I can. Win on saturday and sunday (that was the plan) and drive home to get ready for the shop monday morning. My racing "could not" interfere with my customer's needs.
Yes, there is a big lesson for me too in all of this.

I would love to take part of one of your events in the future. One of my very good friends and clients built a house in Blowing Rock a couple of years ago and we used to own a small cabin in Wolf Laurel. I love the hills of NC as they remind me of my native Austria.

My favorite part is that he mentions he is studing for CFA level 1. Congratulations, you got the books but havent even sat for one test yet. If the books were opened you would know that they stress unwaivering ethics in all aspects of business. My .02 that made me chuckle.

Definitely truth in that...as you know, Karl, this is not my or my fiance's first attempt at a marriage. And like you, I told her that in a way I'm glad we both went through our horrible experiences with our ex's, so we would be prepared to be with each other. I really believe that...

And, it's true in life. You meet dirtbags, especially in my line of work, and it makes you appreciate the good people. My fiance and I could have let our experience change us to where we don't trust others...and your experiences with crappy clients could have changed your attitude. But it didn't...a lot of people here support you, Karl. And it's a testament to who you are and how you run your business.
