which goes with the territory of ambitions v capabilities.

Those that do tarmac rallying with little or no funds in general dont destroy their cars or themselves.

Those that have lots of money somehow lose the preservation gene and aquire the extinction gene........thinking money will solve their problems.....tell that to the gum tree you hit side on

and this is just what happens

That will kill you every time, doesn't matter how big your roll cage is.

what do you reckon................aortic dissection (tear) from deceleration means you have about 30 seconds to live whilst your heart pumps blood either to your head or lower thorax. If it goes to head then expect eyes to bulge out cos the helmet is keeping the brain encased, if it heads south then severe bloating occurs around the lower abdomen.

    In a word............NO

After what we witnessed in CA 09 with the double fatality......made me realise that you can have 10mm thick RSJ girder and it would bend.

Roll cages are for rolling.....not hitting trees

    and the tree didnt move

That crash wasnt fatal, while both driver and co had serious injuries.
    Driver was Damien Daumas

    http://daumasjaussaud.e-monsite.com/

After two months of intensive daily therapy, we had the pleasure to meet Damien in the vicinity of special Rallye du Mont Blanc. Far from having forgotten the family of the rally, which is particularly close to his heart, he was touched by your support. As in all your affection left by messages, telephones, etc..

His progress is remarkable because it works despite a slight limp. Gradually he found the mobility of his arm and hand. Doctors have recently confirmed the content of its good functional rehabilitation, which will not be provided without light effects in the future.

Of course the road to recovery is long, but we are all proud of his recovery dazzling and moral strength he has shown.

Yes, it's my understanding that aortic dissection is a big killer in high speed motor vehicle accidents. Death does not occur immediately.

Depends on the severity of injury. Accounts for death in about 20% of MVAs. Upto about 90% die immediately by bleeding out into the chest cavity. 80% of those that survive the initial trauma die on the way to hospital and very few of the rest survive

    So basically you're ****ed

Depends on the size and degree of the rupture, I'd say.

terriable way to go,perhaps the RTA should do a campaign high -lighting this, just go down to the local abbitors and throw a bucket of guts and bone into a car's cabin.

its not like a bicycle puncture.........and small tear becomes a big tear and oingo boingo.....you are history as greg said.

Chances of recovery are only possible if by chance it happens on an operating table with your chest open, otherwise its syonara.

Even then you're ****ed. Had a young guy during my training brought into a major trauma hospital following an MVA, surgeon sliced his chest open in casualty and he stuck one of my hands over the hole in the aorta and the other around this guys heart which i pumped furiously whilst we emptied almost the whole blood supply of the hospital down the IV.

    End result

    - he was ****ed

    - massive blood trail down the corridors of the hospital leading to the operating suite

    - I had to throw out my blood saturated clothes

    - hospital administrators were severly pissed off that we "wasted" blood trying to save this guy

I'll bet the family of the person were happy you tried, I know I would appreciate the effort

Doctors told me 8 years ago to go home and prepare my son for his mother's funeral

I sat next to her with the internet making a LOT of small adjustments to the drugs they were pumping into her (the ICU nurses got to trust me in the end as what I was saying made sense and it made me feel useful ) but the real problem was the blood vessels had moved away from the walls of the lungs and she was getting no oxygen into the bloodstream.

I suggested using the heart/lung machines they use for heart transplant surgery and the quack said they were an expensive machine !!!

    Sounds like your hosp admin

Then there is the possibility of patients machines going off in the night, never left her side for 4 days until her vitals stopped plummeting, others died with higher vitals than hers during that time and machines were turned off :(

    bottomline, never give up

Got to feel sorry for people with no family

People like that are far too unsafe to be left alone with knitting needles, they're dangerous.
