Hi. I need help from all you 308GT4 owners out there.

The base of the rear view mirror on my 1974 308GT4 has crumbled. That is the piece that adheres to the windscreen. I have attempted to source one from dealers who were parting 308GT4s, however the bases they have are different from mine.

The bases from the dealers are shown in the first photo. My mirror and half base (the other half is still attached to the windscreen) are shown in the other photos.

Is my mirror only found on early 308GT4s or is it off another car altogether?

On the mirror is inscribed: Vitaloni TP - RT Io No 249.

Can anyone advise where I can get this base, or aternatively get a complete rear view mirror with the base in the first photo?

My mirror is like yours, except the base is in one piece. I had to repair mine also as it had broken away from the base and a PO epoxy'd it. I ended up drilling and taping the triangle stem and screwing it on the base from the backside. I think it was originally designed to "break away" if bumped, as a safety feature. If you can salvage the base somehow...I can't imagine how it split in half... That screw on your stem is not original. Try the usual sources for a replacement, FerrParts maybe?

Does it need to be original?

If not, you can just het a generic mirror at any autoparts store.

You might have better luck with Mike's suggested xref parts if they are out of stock or are charging a big ferrari tax.

Given Porsche is probably the most abundant you can probably go find a 914 unit and canabalize it if you want to use your original equipment. I needed to replace the double sided sticker and went to a local porsche parts warehouse. When asked how my 914 is doing they were surprised to learn that this goes to another brand of prancing horse.

    All GT4 guys,

I will look at mine this friday. It is true the pad is the exact same as the 914, would not be surprised if the whole mirror were not the same, always rub the pad on the glass first after using alcohol, then attach the mirror.
Just check and it sure looks exactly like mine down to the snap on front lens!

I have had my GT4 for 18 years and consider myself the #1 GT4 fanatic and supporter/historian. If you send me some high res pics of your car and # for my personal collection. I will send you a high res 1976 parts book pdf that is searchable I scanned myself.

I am also looking for any that have dark metallic grey hood and engine grills, many US cars had them, probably from dealers upgrade factory bulletin. I am trying to educate the FCA judges on the GT4 and need all the help I can get. I also have the tech bulletin if any want it, and a host of other GT4 stuff.

Also you should register at my pal Peters GT4 registry:

Sorry for the hijack just trying to get all the GT4 guys together!

Thanks for the info on the difference between early and later 914 mirrors. I'm currently checking a few places. BTW I've had my GT4 for 16 yrs and it is still the most exciting car to drive hard. Will email you a pic.

Looks like it might be a break-away mirror as used on later 308s. If it is, the mount on the mirror should just pop back into the part on the windscreen.

I just checked mine and unlike the 914 mirrors in the links mine is like the one above and clearly is marked vitaloni and has the raised section at the back. I bet the mount would fit from the 914 OEM but it may be a $176 experiment!
