Do you regret buying your Ferrari?

I'm first to vote NO.

Can't think of anything better I could have got for the same price at the time.

Nearly got a Porsche Boxster S.

 

I've only had mine a couple months, but a FIRM NO thus far.

It's been everything I envisioned it would be.

Of course, knock on wood that I'm saying the same thing in two years when the next major comes up... ;-)

One just has to have his eyes wide open and acknowledge that these are pretty expensive to own, even with routine maint.

The poop is yet to hit the fan for me, at least in any major way, but I knew what I was getting into before I pulled the trigger. No exotic, least of all a 15+ years-old one, is going to be "cheap" to maintain. Education is your friend when purchasing just about anything.

Even if I had to do a major tomorrow, I've had 1 1/2 years that cost me about $150 for a new 3rd brake light, and around $154 for fluids that I changed myself. I did spend $1,195 for a front end repaint to get rid of some rock chips (included rebuilding the SS spoiler that departed the car and got run over at a decent clip, hehe). I didn't HAVE to do the last bit, obviously, but the car is worth it to me and deserves some love

 

It's heartening to see that nobody yet has voted "yes".

Although, the results will be admittedly skewed since you're posing the question on a Ferrari enthusiast website.

Haha, I have two like that, and I don't regret it at all.

If you bought without thinking it could happen, these aren't the cars for you in the first place.

3.5 years in, no regrets - and I've spent more than average on service due
to "hidden issues" not discovered on the PPI...

My only real regret is I should have waited 6 months - the economy tanked
in fall of 2008 and prices dropped dramatically. I bought at the peak of the
market ($44.5k for a 64k mile '86 328). But it's a very minor regret - I love
my car and at this point, I can't see ever selling.

HMMMM I sometimes wonder if a 360/Maser would have been the better financial choice. I dont know; I enjoy my 1.5 mile commute to work and home. However always thinking about the next item that will need attention does sometimes kill those moments when I just want to drive. Although the constant attention and random no strings attached activities that come with driving my car I don't regret. to each his own and my F355 cost to own is far less then maintaining a GF or Wife.

Not that there is anything wrong with a Wife or GF.

Not a bit...despite sucking up some very large "major" bills on the F355 and Testarossa...wouldn't change a thing. It's been everything I imagined and then some.

 

IMHO, the individuals in this section are quite vocal about the pros and cons of ownership. Accordingly, I think the poll is reasonably statistically significant for these models.



Speaking of Ferraris, the two trials are going VERY well. You need to start thinking of type and color.

I bought my 308 in December '07, at the market peak, and have spent about $3K on stuff that the PPI didn't catch or that I could have negotiated harder on. At the $39.5K purchase price versus a reasonable sale price expectation of $33-$35K now, those factors have me in the hole for around $8-10K.

Other operating expenses and repairs have been after the fact.

On the positive, it's an all-original car with nothing missing, complete ownership and service records, 19K miles when I bought it, nudging 24K now. Runs great and is in super-nice condition, inside and out.

My only regret is that I didn't have a crystal ball that would tell me that:

-we would be selling our old house and buying/remodeling another in the midst of the housing meltdown.

-I would spend the balance of my car money ($30K) on moving expenses.

-We had to sell one car out of three due to lack of space at the new house, and because she can't drive a manual-shift car, this left us with only one she can drive. Though she has a love-hate relationship with the Ferrari, she didn't want me to sell it.

-I don't want to give up Ferrari ownership for a long time to come and she's behind me on that. However, upgrading to a decent F1 550 or 360 that she could drive in auto mode would require pulling $50K from the nestegg...no can do in current market conditions.

I also wish I still had my 328 GTB.

 

My car has more stories than Dr Suess and I was caught off guard with a large list of hidden issues that make me mad as heck sometimes. But I fix 'em and move on.

When I look back at this summer that all melts away. I let several people drive their first Ferrari....many of them 18 - 19 year olds heading off to college. Hopefully they have a small goal now.

I had numerous 8 - 14 year olds get a picture with (and in) the car. Happens at the pizza place, park, ice cream parlor, car show, etc. The memories are priceless for both them and me.

Do I regret it? When I am laying on my back underneath it?....sometimes. But that is all forgotten when I am driving and sharing the expereince.

It has always been a dream car for me to own.

Got mine while prices were down. Had a heavy hit to get all the service done but hope now it will be a reliable daily driver.

Put 2,000 miles on it since getting it out of the service shop in Sept. It has been a hoot to drive, biggest smile from any car I have owned.

As another put it "the best gift I have given myself"

The only thing I regret is not giving up my F430 earlier for a 458. But, the F430 WAS the best car I ever owned so it's understandable...!

 

Yes , Abosolutely! I totally regret it!! I should had done this 10 YEARS AGO!!!! That is what I regret!!! As for the car......why???? It's a Ferrari!!! I believe the gentlemen with the signature of..." I have no girlfriend, I have no wife, I have no life....but I have a Ferrari and that makes everything alright" pretty much sums it up. Life in my opinion is good when you have a Red Testarossa in the gararge. So if your looking for negatives, try the local bar, you will find them there!!!

 

Funny, there are sometimes things in life that the moment you lay your eyes on it, you know you'll love it, unconditionally, no matter what it throws at you. I bet most here will say that about their kids, significant other, but also about their Ferrari. I do!
