Thanks Marc! What caught my attention was that this car i supposed to be a -74, and I can see the old style front seats, but the new B pillars. I find the closed nose more appealing, but know the reason why Maserati changed it. The differences in the B pillars are easy to spot from the inside. The structure is "beefier" for the pillar all the way from the roof and down, and it's also come changes to the lower part of the rear side window frames. The later cars has less room in the sides of the back seat (if I may call it a seat), and the speakers point towards the center of the car, not forwards. My friend René was the fist to comment on this issue, so he should be credited, not me. I like to know how many cars has the early style B pillars, as for now I know of #008 and #016. Both of them also has the old style coarse carpets, and the front wheel housings with only satin black paint under the "diamond" sound proofing mats. But don't expect #008 and #016 to be identical in all details, I know a few details that don't match already, and I guess we find more in Dijon. Hilsen Marius
Marc, I would say that is an accurate measure of the Mediterranean temperment in general. And that's fine. (You know that I am an American with purely Italian blood). Carmine
-"Marc, I would say that is an accurate measure of the Mediterranean temperment in general. And that's fine. (You know that I am an American with purely Italian blood). Carmine" Si Signore! and being half French I can say it! -Marius thanks for the clarifications! -380. Another to come out of the woodwork recently was AM120380, it was generally unknown as it sat in a collection in the middle east before recently being brought to the UK. A few weeks ago, right in the middle of the civil war like riots our very own Marius went to Manchester UK to see it with another Norwegian who had been looking for one very dilligently and after inspection bought it. The trip to Norway was eventful with electrical concerns before during and after the ferry boat ride in freezing cold and there was also the concern of Norwegian customs not imposing the huge taxes they levy on importation of cars younger than thirty years as this one, while born in 1980 had been been registered until a few year later which would have made it too young but thankfully it was accepted as a 1980. July 1980 Completed External color “Celeste Chiaro” (Italver code 6338016) Internal color “Fungo” leather (Conollo code VM.3498) It only has a little over 12000 kms and the collection it used to be in the middle east has another Khamsin with just 1200kms! It will stay red for now as it is a good paintjob but will eventually put back to original color. It is now receiving a thorough going over in Norway and should be at Khamsin Quaranta next June along with Marius aboard one of the other Norwegian Khamsins! -In other news I was informed yesterday that AM120036 has shown up in a garage in Sweden for total restoration: this is yet another one to come out of the woodwork and I am expecting more info on it soon. Some photos of 380 below. best regards, Marc

To correct myself in my post above: -Factory assembly of early cars when they had no smooth noses left. -Factory assembly of late cars when they had no vented noses in stock. Is wrong, it should read: -Bertone pre- assembly of early cars when they had no smooth noses left. -Bertone pre-assembly of late cars when they had no vented noses in stock. The cars arrived in Modena from Bertone already pre assembled missing only the mechanicals etc. Marc
Some corrections on my remarks regarding #178 and the B pillars. René and I am looking at the pictures now, and found that #178 also has the slim B pillars. Unlike #008, the upper mounting point for the seat belts are at the middle of the the window height. We are thinking that #US1000 may be the first one with the new B pillars. This car is supposed to be a -74 model, but maybe you have comments regarding this Marc. Best regards Marius
We looked thought most pictures in this thread (again), and think we have the answer regarding the B pillars now. All the Khamsins with old style seats seam to have the old, and thinner B pillars. The best picture that show this is here: http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/showpost.php?p=139068681&postcount=1404 All the cars built for the US market seams to have the new style of seats, and all of them has the new style B pillars. The same goes for later Khamsins for the Euro market, with the new seats. Consider this as a lead Marc, not a statement! #008 has a filler cap for oil on the right cam cover, just like a QPIII (from Indy or Mexico maybe), and ashtray mounted much higher in the center console. The padding on top of the center tunnel is also different than the other cars we have seen. The rest of the list I have sent you by e-mail, but we may alter it soon. René and I plan for another photo shoot on Sunday, if the temperature continue to stay above the freezing point. Cheers Marius
Hi Marc any idea what the original colour was? I like red , I have to say that as its the colour I painted mine. But I would do it a much darker red next time( if there is one). As for the B pilar comments My car RHD 403 has the deeper pillar but RHD 361 built I believe only a year earlier doesnt. I have a feeling that as My car is a Australian Spec, it has clear glass , seatbelt mount for the rear seatsintrusion bars in the door the deeper pillar was part of that but I am yet to see a later car in Australia. ...is currently for sale in Germany. Asking price is Euro 85k. A nice, very well pampered car! But the red......! Ciao! Walter Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login

Hi Rudy, Thank you, but the 3500 and 5000 water pumps differ from the 4.9 V8's and these seals come in different versions. Nice Sebring you have, did you attend Italia a Zandvoort this year? Regards, Bart
Okay, I thought so, we met in the morning. I was there with a friend in a silver grey 599 GTB of the "Altra Marqua".
I am not sure if I am duplicationg the infor, however the there are two variations of the water pint seal. One has a ceramic face the seal sits on the other doesnt. If you are changing the seal fit the latter one with the ceranic face on the impellor. There is another option but much more radical and thats an electric Pump. Regards Graeme
Hi Marius and sorry for my delayed reply. It would make total sense though I am readily prepared to be proven wrong, that the new pillars were introduced when the US version came out, after all it was supposed to be safer for the US market.....Naderized! so yes 1000 would be the first car to have all that. About 1000 in later more recent years there is one point I like which is that it hasn't just had the bumper conversion, sidelights IIRC but also the US spec differential ratio has been removed and a Euro one fitted: that is going all the way! It was done by one of the owners before René the actual one. Don't know if the timing has been set according to the Euro spec setting for peak power as opposed to peak torque which was the US setting. Oh one more thing, a question for the technically minded: has any of you ever seen evidence of reinforced doors on US cars? They are supposed to be, just curious: thanks in advance for any info. On to the next email.
Marius very interesting points will have to look at this when NOT exhausted Walter: thanks for the fresh photos of 040. 178: finished November 74, blue Sera with senape interior, sold March 75 at dealer Rolma Automobili in Milan. KHAMSIN QUARANTA: I am very happy with the response, a LOT of interest and I am very appreciative of the fact that every single European Maserati club I have approached has been very positive about the event. I haven't finished emailing individual European and Uk owners one at a time yet but the networking is distributing the information ahead of me so thank you very much indeed to those who have helped inform other Khamsin owners! Good evening! Marc
René and I had a blast last Sunday. It's so fun to drive the Khamsin on the country side roads where it's twist and turns, but also long enough straights for to built up speed. The straights doesn't need to be that long before 180 km/h are reached, from what I understand. We both knew this was the last drive before the winter, and we where right as well. The last two days it has been minus a few degrees, and the Road Administration has started to spend money on the salt. Last year I think they used 400.000 tons of salt on the Norwegian roads, so I guess they are trying to break the record again. Here is some shots from last Sunday of Khamsin #008 (blue) #US1000 (green) and Merak #US24444. Thanks for posting Marius: very special photos, the very first production Khamsin, AM120.008, with the very first US model, AM120US1000, an absolutely unique combination, not in Modena or in an auction or concours, but being enjoyed adventurously just before winter sets in: that's the spirit! Marc
Hi Amaz It appears you not alone in your quest 120 421 also needs one. He is exploring the options to have some made. My guess is they will all be come brittle over time and need replacing. Graeme
Great shots, Khamsins look good in dark colours I wish people would keep posting shots of dark coloured Khamsins , makes me want to paint mine again! I think I will strick with signal red. Graeme
I am well aware of winterhibernation ...... You wait as long as possible before tucking the cars away
