Amazing how multiple Dutch (automotive) websites picked up this 'news' as 'an F40 LM for road use...' Does anybody know the chassis# of this car? Natan Tazelaar
This video is a lot more enjoyable than a (too) shiny look-alike being stuffed into a trailer... [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ddZELAk1BF0[/ame] Natan Tazelaar
Has a full spec LM/GTE ever compete against an FXX? Or does anyone have times for these cars at the same track, similar conditions? ie: Fiorano?
Anyone knows why is 88779 a GTE with manual transmission? I had the idea that all GTE's had sequential gearbox
A quote from the article as appeared in Car magazine September 2011 "this one was retrofitted with a five speed manual with traditional gate because the GTE's X- Trac built boxes proved fragile"
Not all GTE's had the X-trac sequential gearbox. I believe it was the EVO 2 cars that had it and it was a seriously expensive option. At least one EVO 2 car also had inboard suspension.
When I got my first shake down session of #88779 with JMB Racing team on Paul Ricard track, JP Malcher, the technical director of JMB told me after two (quick) laps that such F40 GTE was more fun and efficient (quicker?) than the 575 GTC they were running in FIA GT at that time, just an idea on the performance of such real and complete competition car (who was running Le Mans 1996 by the way). So based on the time done in Le Mans we can get an approximation of the efficiency of such cars. My 2 cents!
Interesting you should say this. The magazine article clearly gives the impression that "it had a X-Trac box which was changed". I know that information is not always correct purely because it has been reported in a magazine. Thank you for clearing that up for me. The car was at Kyalami during the SEFAC day and it was very well turned out. The present owner has gone to great lengths to have it presented correctly.
Check in this thread as I think I already posted the Michelotto construction sheet of #88779, and you will see that this car was never ordered or constructed with a sequential gearbox. So magazine are not at all always telling truth!
The one with the "baby Land Rover" cover? I did a quick check before posting but I didn't find anything. I will re-check. thanks
One more time, I need your help : I seek all informations about the F40 GTE #40 at Suzuka in august 1994. All pictures of the 1:1 are welcome or identifications of the sponsors. Particularly on the support of the rear spoiler, the bottom of the car and the roof... Thank you. Nice pics of #90001 Currently living in Canada I have hundreds of photos from these racing LMs and GTE's but none from Suzuka 1994....... Maybe some other fchatters can supply some photos.
Tom, thank you for your help. That's true, it's #90001 driven by Olofsson, Della Noce and Yoshikawa. A race in Japan, country of the cameras, with so few pictures, this is incredible ...
