Now that Austin is on the official FIA calendar, will the race really happen?

  1. Yes, it will happen.

  2. No, no way for construction to finish.

Stephen Mullins, an insider with Ecclestone's trust (Bambino) until recently, will be testifying soon in the Gribkowsky case. Mullins and Ecclestone have had a falling out as of late and I seriously think that Ecclestone's future is about to take a severe beating. Her Majesty's Customs and Revenues has already stated they will be investigating the trust thoroughly. Call me a brash speculator, but I figure when Bernie pays Gribkowsky $44,000,000 in a shakedown, just to avoid the inconvenience and hassle of an investigation into Gribkowsky's allegations, there is likely some seriously 'cute' accounting going on inside Bambino.

I suppose this has little to do with Austin's F1 future, but I forecast Bernie could be out of the picture in F1 before there is a race in Austin. Take that any way you want.....JMHO.

+1 and the State of Texas would have to be sensitive as to who it pays public money to.

    I just read the link.

What a bunch of finger pointers. No one wants to push for the race. Its all someone else's problem? As a friend from Houston says ' this is a goat rope'.

How about putting this in place and making it happen. If Tavo is waiting around and the circuit builder is waiting around Im happy to go to NY/NJ instead. What a soap opera. Its sad a deadline has to be issued for US F1 fans to find out the fate of a race.

It seems like its time to either vote again or make a new poll:

Will Ecclestone sink the USGP over some BS?

My vote is Yay; See you in NJ...

    On a slightly off-topic thought.....

IF we do get a USGP (I'm trying to be an optimist) does anyone think we'll have an American driver to cheer for in the near future? I don't follow much racing other than F1 and ALMS, has anyone heard of any up and coming Americans who have a shot at a seat with even one of the smaller F1 teams?

There you go, one to watch.

Michael Lewis will both have the chance to test a Ferrari F60 Formula 1 car, as part of the ongoing scheme to promote the Italian F3 championship and help Ferrari find young drivers. Lewis finished second in the series, with three victories to his name and only a few points behind Campana.

Lewis was recently named as a finalist for the FIA Young Driver Academy for 2012. The Californian driver began his racing career in quarter-scale midgets at Pomona in 2003, at the age of 13. He switched to karts in 2005 and raced in Europe in 2006 with CRG, driving for Dino Chiesa’s Chiesa Corse kart team. In 2009 he moved to Formula BMW and was rookie of the year in the BMW Americas Series and then moved to the European championship last year. He moved to Italian F3 this year with Prema Powerteam. Lewis is also studying for a business degree at California State University at Fullerton, in Los Angeles.

Bernie doesn't sink the Austin GP. Tavo is doing that all by himself.

If all things were honky dory, Bernie wouldn't say a word and we'd be seeing some impressive construction going up by now.

The fact that Bernie gave them now a 5 weeks deadline shouldn't come as a surprise: This is pretty basic stuff they're missing at this point. If they don't get their house in order now, how will they be ready some months down the road?

Bernie is the organizer of all the events and the calendar and as such has a responsibility towards the teams and the other GP organizers. He can't just leave the Austin GP hanging in there with a *. We saw what a mess an unforeseen event like the revolution in Bahrain caused. The rationale for the 5 weeks is pretty obvious: Mid December is when F1 has its WDC crowning event and at that the calendar for the next year has to be final.

In an interview Tavo was tooting his horn that he "practically grew up around Bernie" and how he knows F1 and Bernie. So he shouldn't be surprised to see some pressure now coming his way.

All depends on whether he comes from the Hill/Andretti or the Daly/No-Speed corner.

So is Bernie trying to push the lovebirds together,... or is he the future MIL who doesn't think much of her son's girlfriend?

Bernie is the father whose son knocked up some girl, and now he's telling them they need to get married.

Better alope soon, or the State isn't going to pay for the honeymoon....
