    Hmmmm..... Interesting.

I'm certainly no Adrian, but I'm not "feeling" the benefit of any blowing with this set up. With the EBD they were exiting into a very restricted space and hence the gases had to accelerate (Boyles Law).

OTOH, the tail pipes here are more or less exiting into "free space" that already has substantial high speed airflow going by - I'd be surprised if any "gas" even made it as far as the wing in any concentration high enough to do any good.

OT other OH, I was wrong once ;)

    Cheers,
    Ian

You're right that they are not going to do nearly as much in this configuration. However, the air exits the exhaust pipes traveling upwards of 180mph and the volume assists in creating a different type of pressure zone than before. I still don't see any loopholes in these configurations but there are some seriously clever aero guys out there so who knows

Unfortunately for William,s they're the ones who need this to work the most...

+1 It'll be interesting to see what the others are up to; As Ross said a while back, "once we've learnt something [exhaust blowing] it's impossible to unlearn".

+1 Despite their current woes they've still got Patrick and he's done some very, very good cars over the years - I'd love to see them come up with something that puts them back at the pointy end.

    Cheers,
    Ian

I, for one, am glad that the exhaust are visible again because A. it looks cool and B. we can see some flames shooting

Perhaps it is to create downforce in corners at slow speed.

Since periscope exhaust has been used before, I don't think it's going to be a big deal.

Either pipe the exhaust above or below the wing
Make sure it gets to where you want it.
Just throwing it upwards above the engine cowl makes no sense to me.

Mmmm....How long before the FIA tweak the exhaust rule to say the pipes must exit at an angle that is parallel to the ground and set a height limit to prevent blowing onto the rear wing?

I can see some tricky exhaust pipe cowl covers being used as wings or at least air deflection devices routing air to the rear wing. Probably multi element too. Look for this in 2012.
