91 TS: Nice car, clean interior, good records but a few questions:

The front lower bumper is black and the texture looked like undercoating - like it was rolled in linex or something. It wasn't painted but simply looked like this texture. It also looked to have an under-tray missing at the bumper - so I could see the back of the bumper and it looked like it was made of fiberglass. No evidence of repair or paint work though. Will someone confirm if this texture/fiberglass appearance is normal / stock.

I believe the check engine light may have been on and cleared before I arrived. Is there an affordable scan tool for reading/clearing these. (I do plan to have a PPI if I move forward).

The light switch was the only thing not working. When working with it the stalk actually came out of the switch base and left the headlights up/on. It would only spin in the socket when re-inserted and thus could not turn off the lights unless removing the ignition key. Any advise on the magnitude of this repair?

Overall I definitely see the lure of the 348. I did not get a chance to compare it against a 355 as I had hoped.

    Thanks.

After I thought about it, I believe the front lower bumper was the same as the targa top's texture (bumpy surface).

What I was trying to say about the headlight switch on the steering column is that it is stripped and even pulls out. How difficult & costly is this switch? Also, what is the light switch down near the gear shift lever for? Interior - raise headlights??

There was no locking cover for the bin between the seats. Did Ferrari remove this between 1990 and 1991?

The exterior texture of the lower portion of my bumper is smooth but my "black stuff" has been removed before I got it and it is made of fiberglass as is the rear bumper.

No need for a scan tool. There is a button which the car may or may not have near the ecu's to get and clear codes. I assume your PPI will note this.

Light switch thing sounds complicated and expensive, but I really have no idea.

    Good luck.

Light switch can be expensive, $500 or so.
    Bumper is probably an aftermarket.
Recommend you fill out your profile, subscribe so you can post pics, etc. $15...priceless.

That is correct, this feature was for the earlier models and then removed later on.

I agree with Plugz, especially now more than ever since you are hunting for one - get a $15 Silver subscription, fill out your profile, and post pics of whatever it is you are looking at and that will help both you and the members here to give you better assistance.

I think you'll find that a new headlight switch is way, WAY more than $500. Quite probably more than $2000. The old one MAY be fixable, but they aren't designed to be easily disassembled.

    Good luck!

Yeah, those things are ridiculous! I have a feeling mine may be on it's way out, too. :-(

Anyone find a repair or mod for using a mainstream switch. Since I haven't bought the car I can't investigate. If it simply closes the circuit for headlight up, on, bright, dim; it sure seems like something could be fixed for such a common function. Use a meter to mark each lead and wire in another switch. Maybe difficult to adapt the Ferrari lever to another switch.
Anyway you see where I'm going here.

This is one of the reasons I do not use my lights or drive after dark - plugz!

Guys, it is possible to repair the swich. I repaired the turn signal switch and the same procedure can be used on the light switch. I used some tiny metric screws, two on one side and one on the other. The steel shaft is the backbone and the holes are threaded. Notice one screw is countersunk for clearance. FWIW
