I guess it's one way to describe Coulthard, but it seems misleading to me. GP Winner would be better IMHO. When I read Champion, I thought WDC, not race winner.

It is how he is described in the Red Bull magazine, Bulletin. I like DC. Not a hater at all.

What do you guys think? Misleading or accurate?

Well, technically he is a GP champion in the events won. But in F1, most fans relate champion to World Champion. If not, then guys like Trulli, Kovalinen and Fisichella (among many others) can be referred to as champions in F1, not just race winners. I guess it's a way for Coulthard to exude self importance.

Agreed with the rest but not this. DC doesn't seem like the person that would mislead people like this. People outside F1 don't care, and people inside F1 all know a champion is someone that finished on top after a full season, not a single race...

I think it's just an article written like this by someone at Red Bull magazine who doesn't particularly care about F1 or it got lost in translation.

Imho the term champion should not be used unless that driver has won the championship in their prospective series. I was watching a 'Man vs Food' episode with Joey Logano and Adam introduced him by saying "Joey Logano NASCAR champion" and I was like WTF he is not a champion only a race winner.

Or.. to promote his watches? Allthough the website doesn't mention him as a champion:

What about if you win a race that has merit on its own? The Indy 500? Le Mans? If you win those, are you a champion?

once upon a time grand prix were national events. britian, france, germany, italy. when a driver won such a race he was considered a national champion. things have changed

OK, maybe he wouldn't make a statement like that to mislead, but he always seemed to have an arrogance that his performance just didn't match. Granted, 13 GP victories are a great accomplishment, but somehow he was always overshadowed by his teammate.
