    Item no. 250908722960

1989 Mondial t, mileage is quoted as only 1850 from new! Registration no. G748 DTW

The pictures are very poor and there's no description of the car at all.

Priced at £18,500 or best offer. Hard to say if it's a bargain or not. Does anybody know the car?

I've emailed the seller for more details but have had no reply as yet.

I've also seen the same listing and not at all surprised that there has been no reply to the email. Makes you wonder if the car actually exists.

Just a typical eBay scammer. There is no car - if you pay, you will lose
your money and get nothing in return.

    Ignore.

    I've had a reply.

No answers to my questions about service history and whether the car is running.

The car is on SORN and he's selling for a friend who is "in Spain at the moment" and that the guy "hardly used it at all"

However he's suggested that if I'm really interested I should go and have a look at the car, and he's given me a mobile number to ring, so that's a positive.

If he really is selling it for "a friend" there's every chance that he does not know much about it, so the lack of technical info could be genuine.

I'll go and have a look. I wonder if his friend knows that it's for sale.....

Seems like this Mondial t coupe can be a jewel of a finding. Here is the ebay ad in GB: http://www.ebay.com/itm/250908722960?ru=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.ebay.com%3A80%2Fsch%2Fi.html%3F_nkw%3D250908722960%26_sacat%3D0%26_odkw%3DItem%2Bno.%2B250908722960%26_osacat%3D0%26_trksid%3Dp3286.c0.m270.l1313%26_fvi%3D1&_rdc=1#ht_500wt_1413

The mileage is very low, meaning it does not get driven and who knows how long its been sitting in the garage. Get a PPI, most likey you will need a major service, all hoses and fluids replaced. Cheers!

DVLA check says the tax runs out in May 2012. Curiouser and curiouser......

The guy selling the car is not the person named on the V5.

The thing is, if I buy it from him and he's selling it "for a friend who is in Spain" what happens if he's not authorised to sell it.
Can the "friend" come round to my house with the Police and reclaim the car?

    What do you think ?

No doubt the 'vendor' will only accept payment to his account and not direct to the 'friend' in Spain

Only the named person can legitimately sign the V5 so how does the car get into your name ?

Well that's it, isn't it. How indeed.

It's still on ebay though, as of today. Also if it's "on SORN" how come it's taxed?

a non-owner might be able to legally sell it if they have a power-of-attorney that legally aurhorizes them to sell the car. You'd have to ask the seller/advertiser if they have that legal issue in writing.

It's recorded as a write-off on the DVLA database back in 1993

So it must have been rebuilt, but when? If it's only done 1850 miles maybe it's not been used since, and has just surfaced.

It would need a full inspection, but I'm not interested now.

    Lightning,

Have you seen the mondial QV on Psitonheads that was for sale a week ago for less than 7000£? I think it was a steal! It was sold in less than a day, so someone else was thinking the same, but faster than me. :(

There's a few on ebay under £10,000 at the moment.

Trouble is, you could probably spend £5,000 or more straightaway getting it sorted, and then it's not quite the bargain it seemed.
