    would have been Giacosa but he didn't like elitest competitions so he left it to Isotta-Fraschini to build the engines for the race.

    I had a quick look at the stats of winners, 3xItaly, 4xUK, I always loved the Supermarines

    from memory the British/RR effort was sponsored by one person a dame/lady.
    Without that motor the Battle of Britain would have been lost.

    Sounds about right to me. More than a few ended up in cars which seems nuts to me. Jay Leno owns one in fact.

    word is that they couldn't fly upside down for long whereas the Messerschmitts could due to fuel injection

    RR preferred the carbi,which allowed for more power,infact it feed the supercharger in a similar way to injection.
    They had the option of injection but prefered the carby,in fact after 1941 they had injection on the Merlin.
    The RAF also had 100 octane fuel where as the Nazi did not thus they were able to run more boost to the Merlin.
    its all about AFR lol.
