Anybody has replaced their original cats with the above for the 360cs? Is this a good upgrade and is there any discernible change in power or noise?
    Thanks

Yes and yes. It's the way the car should be from the factory. It is louder but the sound is better.

i have a ported intake mainifold ,and 430 exhaust on my 360. I dynoed my car before doing these upgrades and the car put out 317hp to the wheels. After i did the mods to the car the car dynoed at 342. I justed installed the high flow cats. Which i made, The car feels alot more powerful now. I will dyno the car in the next week to get a new HP reading. Ill keep you posted on the power.

Kinetix Racing Hi-Flow cats are a better value, around $1450 compared to over $2000. Trev360 endorses them. Supposedly they are a bit lighter too if I remember right?

If you want an honest advice, the answer is categorically NO!

You will gain 5-8 bhp but you will also get a CEL and you will NOT and I repeat, you will NOT get rid of it until you replace your original cats back.
So if you want some more noise and power gains, then i would advice you to save a bit more money and go for the complete header installation.

This is an honest advice from a member who's been there and done it and regretted it, and it's not money/commission related!!!

Do not want to distract the OP threat but I am very interested in knowing how much modify you have to do to port the intake manifold from a 430 to 360? Please PM me.

    Thanks

I had hyperflow cats installed on 360 Spider, when I needed to replace the cats. I have not had a CEL or any other issue. As far as increase in horsepower, I do notice a small increase in power at the track, although I would not have swapped out my cats, unless I had to, for the hyperflows. Also, I am quite certain that the main reason for no CEL or other problems is due to Fernando and Richard at Competizione.

I have hyper flows on my 360. I changed one header that had a damaged pre-cat with a new factory header, and changed the main cats with hyperflow cats at the same time, and also changed a MAF sensor at the same time (I had changed the other MAF last year). I have now had zero CELs and finally fixed all items that were causing CELs. I think the bad MAF led to the deterioration of the one side of the motor's pre-cat going bad- when that went bad it send debris downstream to the main cat. The two hyperflows were cheaper than the one ferrari main cat- the sound great, and as I said I have had no CELs since the installation this past spring.

If anything, chaning the headers with non-pre-cat headers can give you a CEL. We didn't want to deal with potential CEL issues (or with installing heat guards) so we stayed with the factory headers.

While I have a 360, it can't be much different if at all for a 360CS.

I agree with Rob- I wouldn't have changed the cats for any performance upgrade or even the sound upgrade (I have a tubi that already sounded great- just sounds better now), but since I had to replace one cat the time was right....and as I said the upgrade to hyperflow was cheaper for me than just replacing the one bad main cat with a Ferrari unit! Expensive, but at least a little chaper than the ferrari cat route, and better sound and perhaps a few HP (which I don't really notice anyway...maybe the car is making 5-10 hp more with the cats and the tubi, but the feeling of more speed is probably metal from the beautiful sounds vs totally stock :) )

I have hyper flow cats and never did I get a CEL...You may get more soot, but it's well worth it... I have P guys follow me around just to hear the car and give thumbs up !

I don't notice this- I get the same occasional little soot droplets by the pipes with the hyperflows as with the regular cats- actually I think maybe less since the install? The soot is probably from certain morning starts depending on the humidity/temperature or something...and seems to be normal for 360s (and maybe 430s too).

I just re-read my prior post- lots of type-os! Sorry about that- my final thought I was trying to make in that rambling post was that any increased performance from my exhaust and hyperflows is probably mental vs actual meaningful power increases.

Did you do the work yourself? If not who did it and had they ever successfully fitted them before!?

The reason I ask is because the 360's electronics are pretty sensitive and a Check Engine could be the result if its fitted incorrectly or without following the correct procedures. An example is that if you don't isolate the battery (to allow the Bosch Monotronic ECU's to do full re-learn) the differences between the back pressure of the old cats and the new cats could be enough to cause the computers to flag a discrepancy and thus activate a CEL, particularly if your oxygen sensors are 100% perfect.

I found with my Euro spec 360 (LHD, no header cats and no air injection) that both Hyperflow's and Kinetix worked just fine without a hitch and had no CEL issues (as long as the battery reset is done !!!).

One final note is to just mention the differences.

When I fitted the hyperflow's I noticed they where substantially louder than the Kinetix to the point that it was borderline anti-social when fitted with a Timate titanium race exhaust.

Both types of cats where quite a bit louder (and lighter) than stock cats and both improved throttle sensitivity and higher rpm power and torque. The Kinetix where less weight than the Hyperflow's but from the seat of the pants I felt the Hyperflow's had the slight edge in power but it was really just a tiny difference. Overall I was happier with the Kinetix because of the better weight savings and lower noise levels with still very noticeable throttle response improvements.

IMHO get the fitting right and its a win-win, better still fit them yourself and know the job has been done properly, that's what I did! Twice! First on the Hyperflows and then with the Kinetix so I literally did back to back comparisons.

I've had Hyperflows on with a Timate since spring and no CEL's. I'm surprised Trev that yours was so loud, as mine is still very livable. I can talk in the cabin quite easily while cruising around and it's actually kind of mellow once warmed up. Must be the difference between the Euro "catless" manifolds and the US version.

    Hi Trev

Yes I had them fitted at my mates garage.
We firstly isolated the battery and in addition we disconnected it, and after the instal we did the whole ecu reset and relearn.
I have a f430 spider and don't get me wrong, I am not complaining about power gain because the car now does 539 bhp, but I have a complimentary cel that I can not get rid of.
    Codes P0420 and P0430 pop every 40 - 50 miles of driving!
Forgot to mention, I have aftermarket headers, filters and recalibrated ecu to match, and AFR is adjusted accordingly.

Those are big thing to foget before claiming the hyperflows will cause a CEL....it could be that one of those things is causing a CEL that only popped up after putting the hyperflows on. The ECU calibration could somehow be affecting the CEL with the difference in back pressure of the hyperflow cats vs whatever was on there before for example, or aftermarket filters may have gotten oil on the MAFs (if they are oiled K&N type of filters) there are just so many variables and possibilities of what is causing the CEL. Given the positive experiences of most others with hyper-flows, it seems it is not your cats.

You car sounds like it is some ride- I'd love to experience that car- must sound and drive great!

I ran Tubi Headers->hyperflow cats->tubi competition muffler for about 6 months. It was super loud. Awesome in short doses, brain killing in longer ones. Completely antisocial. The mid-rpm, part throttle sound was sort of harsh too. andrew911 can comment if my perception is off - he's heard the car, though not at full song.

Now I have headers->hyperflow cats->STOCK muffler w/valves open. Loudness is about right (can hear myself think) but the sound isn't quite right. After 360trev's comments, I have some Kinetix cats on order. I'm going to try them with the Tubi back on. I'm hoping for a little louder than current but a less harsh tone.

I suspect I'm going to become one of those serial exhaust changers. I live with X for a while and then wish it was quieter or louder depending on where X is.

Thanks for the info. Are you sure the cats are good?

If the cats aren't operating efficiently you'd get these codes. Both are regarding cat efficiency on both banks but if they are new its not likely to be that (unless during the remapping/tuning they enriched the mixture too much and destroyed them -over fueling can kill cats).

Failing that the most likely next thing it could be is your rear/downstream towards the exhaust tips O2 (oxygen) sensors are no longer working efficiently. Again easy to destroy with over-fueling. Again this can easily happen when tuning a car live on a dyno, if the maps are over fueling it can kill the o2 sensors.

The least likely proposition is damaged O2 sensor wiring/connectors because it typically would only be on left or right bank whereas you have both.

Finally a long shot is if there are any intake gasket leaks, particularly around the header gaskets where they attached to the engine. They should ideally be replaced with new gaskets (they are quite cheap) when replacing the headers, if the seal isn't good oxygen can get in and cause the computer to think there is more oxygen in the system.

    Hope this helps....

PS. A quick and dirty cheat is to get a oxygen sensor extender for each cat and extend the sensors slight out of the exhaust stream which tricks the ecu into sniffing less oxygen after passing the cats which will de-activate the code. Not a fix but a hack...

    Hi Andrew

I have used fabspeed products, not hyper flow, and although the power gains are very impressive, I can not get rid of the CEL.
I don't want to put my original cats back on and loose power, so I am trying to find a solution to the CEL light.

    Hi Trev,

Yes, the cats are ok, because they are new and they have been tested and the CO2 is within the correct parameters.
The header gaskets are also new and the O2 sensors have also been changed as a precaution.
What we have figured out is that the up stream and downstream flow that is measured in closed circuit is not fluctuating enough as with the standard cats, and this is due to the higher velocity of flow of the new cats.
The main problem is that the parameters in the ecu now, need to be readjusted to accommodate the higher flow and we need a specialist in that area ( not just ecu, AFR remap) which is very difficult to find.
Unfortunately if I fail to find an appropriate tuner who can perform this successfully I will have to go back to the original cats, which will take away some power and also tune down the sound, which honestly now it's incredible.
See my threat, My little project is almost complete.

You do indeed get a CEL with Fabspeed products but not Hyperflow
