Now that Austin is on the official FIA calendar, will the race really happen?

  1. Yes, it will happen.

  2. No, no way for construction to finish.

Member Werewolf posted this in another thread:

"hey guys, i've been largely silent on the Austin situation (cuz i'm sworn to confidentiality) but in this thread, i will offer this (for what it's worth): The last chapter for Austin has yet to be written, and the first chapter of NJ is yet to be written.

I'll also offer this : anyone with even a passing interest in Formula One must read this book :

No Angel : The Secret Life of Bernie Ecclestone by Tom Bower."

For things to be happening Bernie has been fairly clear to the Austin team: Find a pen and some money. If this gent has some inside data they(Austin) are not making headlines about getting this settled very quickly. Sure they have some time given the new deadline but what is so hard about simply signing the only contract that is valid - Bernie's, based on the press out there.

I find it odd that so many people that have been successful enough to buy and own a Ferrari dislike Bernie so much. He started from almost nothing and earned billions on a sport that was almost bankrupt when he took over. But for his hard work and capitalist genius, F1 would not exist; at least not as the top-tier road racing series it is now. I admire his success and wish I could have turned such a turd as was F1 into the jewel it is now.

...I am not a reporter and the information doesn't come from the web, it comes directly from the folks involved in building the track.

...but to keep your hopes alive, I am not saying that any contract is signed, just that construction is starting up again

So you admit you are just trolling. I challenge you to quote one gloating post from me. Hard to believe there is any resumption of construction without a single online reference.

has... past tense... as in "has begun"

is starting... as in occurring now or soon...

Are you saying it has started or will start soon?

Seems like good news. Yet they dont publicize it? It's in their own best interests. Not surprised this cant be found. These are the same people who send Bernie a contract they like vs signing the one that enable a race to be held.

This event needs a nice press conference to settle the waters. Long overdue. I have zero faith in the bunch putting this together. Too many other good races to attend and now NY/NJ in the US.

...you are so predictable! Do you spend a lot of time going through the Feds minutes to decipher subliminal messaging ;)

Decipher this and speculate -- "according to folks involved in building the COTA, construction has started again" (yes past tense).

And yes, based on the volume of my posts on this threat I am certainly a TROLL - geez - Isn't that the pot calling the kettle black???? Back to my man (troll) cave - resetting the alignment on my CS (so I can take it to the track tomorrow....and no it's not COTA track - LOL)

Again, absolutely true! Mr E has made huge money for everyone involved since he took over. Without him, it would still be a bunch of guys in their garage building kit cars for meagre start money.

I read an article, but damned if I can find it, which stated that they had workers back on-site and were doing some earth moving.

However, what I read was that it was not a resumption (in intensity and scope) of what had been going on prior to this latest little tiff, but rather more like limited earth moving. I also saw some speculation (that didn't seem very solid) that said the work going on may be to remain compliant with various contractual obligations or to ensure things don't get damaged, etc. For example, maybe it was important to cover up some pipe with gravel before the earth covers it naturally and requires being re-done, or perhaps they have an agreement that such-and-such land will be put back at grade by year-end, lest they be in breach of permits from the state. That sort of thing.

AFAIK, they ain't doing what they were previously.

The Friends of Formula 1 facebook group reported and posted pics of rollers, cranes and other heavy machinery being carted away Thursday. This probably for the weekend of rain that was predicted. At the same time loads of road base were being trucked in at a steady rate. There's definitely nothing going on since yesterday, its been raining since friday and is not expected to stop until monday.

Bernie is a hard driving son of a *****. Don't knock it till you try it.

IIRC, the WMSC meeting is Wednesday the 7th in Delhi, India.

Delhi is +12 hours or so from Texas time, and Bernie is going to want to know the answer before he goes into the meeting... which means today (Tuesday) is d-day for Epstein.

Either he wires the money and gives Bernie the LOC, or it's over.

Which will it be? Place your bets.

Actually, Bernie is not going to want to take Epsteins word - nobody would at this point... so is it even too late to fax a contract and allow Bernie to verify a LOC and non-cancelable wire transfer payment?

Epstein better be getting to the office early today! Bernie is going to want to know before he goes to bed (or his lackeys in India do). That means by 9-10am it's gotta be done.

Of course it will happen. Speed, 7/27/10:

McCombs admitted he knew nothing about F1 before the project started. He says Bernie Ecclestone asked him Tuesday morning if the track will be ready by 2012, and he replied: "Remember, we are talking about Texas. We are not talking about anywhere else..."

Cavalier before the public funds were denied. Its Texas and its no different than anywhere else when it comes to money. Lets see what this deadline brings. Down to the wire again!
