360CS or 430?

Best indicator for value on recent cars I can see is the 512M vs. 512TR, though the CS is a much larger jump over a 360 in performance than the M is over a TR. M is worth double a TR right now, I'd expect the CS to be worth double a 360 in 5 years (whatever that ends up being, maybe 120k vs. 60k?).

I would expect a CS to hold it's value better than a regular 430 and performance is about the same, so for me I'd go CS. None of the modern cars are an 'investment', not even an Enzo once you figure in maintenance costs. You'll just lose less due to supply and demand factors on a CS or scuderia vs. a regular model.

Just saw your question. Well that car had a Tubi & every morning it sort of interfered with the engine etc when cold. The throttle was very lazy to move off & a harder jap will suddenly send so much torque that wags it's tail & catches you off, it became a danger, no problems when warm. At 120mph & above, on fast sweeping curves, the steering was eerily too light & understeered. Otherwise, it's also as common as a Porsche over here, well u get the idea but looking very good value now! Another issue is I don't like the new warranty cube program which voids the minute you try to even change after market wheels or anything they consider detrimental to Ferrari. It's just too uptight about the way it's run now. I'm like Jay Leno, I like to know how my car works, how it's fixed, what can be improved or tuned to my liking but getting a new Fcar is now like dealing with a headmaster running on chips, there's no human touch

 

Don't know how many were written off but over here, I know of at least 3 written off out of less than a dozen imported. One rebuilt at huge cost and the other two carcasses exported at very high prices possibly to be rebuilt. Which shows that there's a strong demand for it.

 

The COE is a clever idea of the tax department, every motor vehicle from bikes to trucks & buses need to buy it on it's 10th yr cycle. It's for auction & figures controlled. Went as low as US$40 to a peak of US$100k depending on economy. That is on top of the 150% duty of sticker price! Many precious cars were exported due to insane value of COE but our govt. Is kind enough to refund us 50% of the duty if you export the car before 10yrs old & many were gone by 5th so we keep buying new cars and should you like to keep your car beyond 10yrs, you lose the refund & please pay for the COE, thank you

Well, it's the way of life here & we get drilled. So working out value of used cars vs new cars is a little different but I appreciate your view on the CS vs 458 & yes, we should pay for a new COE if we want to keep the 458 for another 10yrs.

I would say a new GT-R would be better bang for the buck... I can't think of an area the ZR1 beats it at, plus it has rear seats and a trunk. I drive my GT-R as an outside sales rep, can carry a surprising amount of samples and literature and when the day is done, I'm not beat up. But back to the original question. I'd go CS, more rare and from what others on here say it sounds like a better experience eventhough it isn't faster.

 

I spent a year shopping for mine. Most had a story. As soon as I found one that didn't, I bought it.

16M rocks. It'd be my convertible weapon of choice. I've logged 500+ miles in one and it's truly superb. Top down the thing sounds bloody awesome. Plus, for your kind of weather you'd actually get to enjoy it with the top down, the way it was meant to be. Scud w/ the option to go topless. Best of all worlds. Drive it and tell me if I'm wrong.

Thanks. Yup, the sales guy (who I know pretty well and he knows me) said I'd buy it if I drove it. This comment was right after I drove a 430 spider with him and came back and said "nah" not rare/raw enough as a sports car and not as GT like (of course) as the Maser. So he kinda read what I was thinking and said come back and drive the 16M and you might find the proverbial "just right" car...

Interestingly (at least to me) there are 4 16Ms for sale in Scottsdale right now (red, titanium, burgundy, black) and I think there are ~30 for sale in the US right now in total...that is interesting when you put in context of, what 200 of these in the US? Maybe less, 150? I mean there were 499 built worldwide right!?!

So...if the US total number is 150, then 30 for sale right now would be fully 20%! WTF? Prices range from $260 to $300k. Me thinks these are in for a tumble just given the supply/demand imbalance and the imminent US launch of 458 Spider (and folks who got original 16M certainly will be candidates for early 458 spiders). Thoughts? (I'll cross post this over in the scud pricing guide).

Also, I would be interested in your thoughts on scud coupe vs. CS (perhaps I just trade CS on scud and keep maser being the idea/option there).

It all comes down to what you want.

The scud does everything faster. Everything.

 

I've driven the Scud on a track for perhaps 30 minutes and LOVE it. And I own the CS. Yet, I really struggle to gain clear thoughts on how I would compare/contrast the two cars. You own/owned both, right? I would be very interested in your views on what makes them different...

No question! E-diff. More torque. More HP. Far better gearbox. Essentially same weight (or at least can be configured that way).

The Scuds only concern is getting power down. Once you figure this out with the elevated under steer brought on by the more power you can really do damage to the 100hp less power CS

I love my scud to death but every time I drive the CS understand why so many love them as well.

I don't have enough track time in the CS and only a few days in the scud but I can say as many do the CS feels lighter and because of that it actually feels faster. It's not. It's a really really good car. Just outdone by its more expensive brother.


My true gut answer to anyone on these cars is quit simple.

These cars are both fantastic. Both cars are well above the driving skill of a very large percentage of the worlds drivers. So much so that you shouldn't care which is faster.

Buy for looks and how they feel in the seat around town. Which is what both of these will be used for 90% plus of the time.

Both feel good above 125mph. CS floats a little more in the 140's and both above 150 feel good and stable. As good as my GT3.

 

Thanks...lots of good advice here. I totally agree about the "which is faster". That won't be a part of my decision on whether to trade the CS for a Scud. I do/will track it occasionally, but still...these cars are well beyond my skills regardless of which one!

So...I am trying to predict if I will be happier with a scud or keeping the CS...don't feel the need to change asap, but thinking on it...wish I had the garage space and resources to keep both (and time to drive them all)!
