So last week the dealer took the car in to replace the valve on the e-diff AGAIN. This time a nice man from the Ferrari factory flew over to do it. They took it apart (I will point out it is still like that, they havnt got round to putting back together a week later). The part was removed and has been taken back to Ferrari factory to be xrayed etc.
Someone else must of had this if it is a faulty valve,
Have lost the car for 6 weeks in total now on this getting a little feed up with it. O the highs and lows of Ferrari ownership

Sorry to hear of your woes. From recollection Daniel from Ricambi mentioned that he has moved a surprisingly high number of those valves in the last 12 months or so. Maybe drop him a PM if you want to follow up on that?

Hope it's back on the road soon, sounds like it's getting VIP treatment.

Very much the VIP treatment, had two differant guys fly in from Ferrari to go over it. Simple enough if part faulty then Ferrari have to pay if it is the fitting its, the dealer, so I am caught in the middle of their fight.
Dealer said he contacted another dealer here and they had a car they had replaced 12 of them in, so someone else must have had the issue, my dealer has done over 20 this year

There must be a major problem with the current lot of these valves. Statistically, there's no way that many faulty units would make it through the system (aren't they tested before they're sent out??). I doubt Ferrari makes this part, so it's not really their fault, but it's still disappointing. It sounds like they're trying to make it right, though. I hope it's fixed for you, soon.

Not to throw a curve all but I am glad that I have a 360(no E-dif) at this point as I would not like to have my car taken for 6 weeks with no real end in sight.

Good luck with that as I can completely sympathize with your pain.

    Re-reading this again.

One dealer, one car, 12 replacements done? Is that right?

Hard to believe it's not caused by something else malfunctioning on the car if that's the case.

sO THE STORY JUST HAS HAD AN UP DATE,
Ferrari have decided that it maybe something in the gear box which is causeing the vavle to go bang.
Issue they dont produce the part seperatlly, you need a new gearbox
Dealer say they have af430 in the show room, so they are now stripping that down and taking this amazing thing out from that and fitting it in my car (leaveing their show room car without a gear box, that will sell well).
Just to see if this vavle blows agin then it is the vavle not another issue. Good news is if it is that a get a newgear box for freeeeeeeeeeeeee
This is a just silly now

Nice! Very nice that you're under warranty too!

Spare a thought though for those who are out of warranty and who are now reading this thread with dread!

Sounds like this could become a big issue for 430 owners into the future.

I'm wondering if this is a problem showing up in a group of cars within a narrow production window. Do you know what month/year your car was built? Anything about the others? I have not heard of this problem on early cars, even those with high mileage.

A bit like above..... As a matter of interest to you happen to know if your vehicle has led a hard life or a relatively easy life? Has it been used on track extensively for example?

Also have there been any particular modifications carried out that might conceivably have facilitated this failure? E.g. wheel spacers, wider wheels, larger wheels etc?

Not hard one that I am awear off, but it is new to me . It is 2005 F430 first reg 07/08/2005. It could have been racked before I got it dont know. But full service history main dealer, all repairs main dealer. Hence the work isnt costing me, saves me over wintering it, appearently I just leave it in the dealership. Will let you know what happens next, they are fropping off a car for me at the weekend as a sorry until mine is done. Turns out the head engineer married my best man sister, so I can hunt him down if it all goes wrong.
Really just a heads up there appears to be an issue with these, and if it is a part fault Ferrari should meet the cost as its not your fault

Interesting. I have a 2005 F430 build around the same time as yours. I lost the e-diff, they replaced the valve, lost the e-diff again the same day I took out of the dealership, took it back, they replaced the the valve again. I did not even get the car home the second time before the e-diff went out again. There seems to be a quality issue here. Any suggestions on how to proceed? It has been at the dealer for a week now with no word what so ever.

Wow. As mentioned, it sounds like a faulty batch. How frustrating. Good luck.

My 430 is 5-6 weeks newer that I bought new. It now has 21K on it with maybe 1K of track miles and never had any issues. How many miles on these two cars?
