2001 was probably the last year I liked MB and BMW cars. The 2001 (2002 final edition) SL is still one of my favorites, the 2001 CL that debuted looked nice, and the 2000+ S-class looked nice. Same can be said for BMW with the E38, E39, X5, etc.

Now they are all too bulky and ugly. Thankfully the 911 has stayed about the same (and all 3,000 versions of it).

    Agreed.

But I saw a new SLK 350 today in black and I liked it more than I thought I would. Kind of muscular, which that car needed.

    I'd say 1971.

The girl looks OK. Car looks a little bulky.

The enormous headlights make it look bigger than it really is and bigger as required by the regs. As the lights are taken from that prototype and apparently are a future signature item of MB, i fear we will see more cars with that styling...

MB has announce a that for 2013 there will be S-class coupe (no more CL) and an s-class convertible...

S-Class 4 seat convert could be very nice.

Autobild is speculating that the discontinued Maybach will be succeeded by a new S-class based Mercedes 600, too.

+1, All the German cars are getting the same bland degenerative styling lately. BMW is just as bad as Merc at this. I can't even tell the difference between the latest 5 and 3 series. And they're making a 6 series sedan now too? Isn't that supposed to be what the 5 is? Or is that the 7? Bah, they all look the same anyways now. I don't even know what the last truly good looking BMW was. E46 M3? When was the last Merc? Audi's had the cool headlights for awhile but now everybody has copied that and they're no longer unique. Jaguar's entire product lineup in in sharp contrast to the Germans as (at least in my opinion) every single model they make looks amazing. The XK is one of the best looking vehicles currently available, the XF used to have a generic front end but they fixed that with the latest revision, and the XJ is about the best looking 4 door luxury sedan available except for offerings from Aston Martin and Maserati.

This new Merc doesn't even look newer than the last generation. At least when they upgraded from the round headlights to the newer angular ones it was pretty obvious that the new one really was "new". This one looks like it could have been made right next to the current one, it doesn't really look newer, and I think I prefer the styling on the current model's headlights vs these giant blobby looking ones. Did they steal these from a Toyota MR2?

its not the regs its the designers

Cali has a front end like an F150 while Aston, Jaguar, Porsche, Corvette still look good

Looks like a Crysler Crossfire. Actually the Crossfire looks better. Prefer the new Jag coupes.
