That Bismark is pretty funny with how fast it scoots along in that water. If that was to scale the allies never would have sunk it. Here's my RC Heli, I only flew it for a little bit before tearing it open. Image Unavailable, Please Login
They are wonderful! Thanks so much for the recommendation. I will definitely get some vids of the aerial superiority I shall establish in mom's living room! I can second Horizon standing by their products. When the MCx first came out I got one at a local hobby shop. I had 2 boards go bad and they replaced both for free, didn't even make me send back the old boards, and this is on a heli I didn't even buy directly from them. Then a couple of years later I had a problem with one motor on my Mosquito, and they sent me a pair of replacement motors free. They have also sent me various other free bits on stuff that has failed or broken in shipment. Honestly, they probably have the best customer service of any company I have dealt with in the past 10 years. All the more reason I keep doing business with them.
i have been building and flying models for a long time. here are a few of mine. barry Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
What is the second plane... the camo one, modeled from? Can't place it. Part F-84? Beautiful stuff. The Corsair is amazing. The F-84 looks like an actual plane. Edit: Found it, the 'camo' plane is an F-84F w/ swept wings and tail.
The second model is an f84-f. Very early Vietnam. This is a 1/5 scale model with a jetcat Titan. The other is an f84-g. I flew this model in top gun competition in 09. It is finished in real alluminum. Tons of scale detail including thousands of hand applied dummy rivets. The corsair is a dash 5 super corsair. They were used in Korea. This is a replica of guy borderlon's Annie mo. He was the first ace of Korea and lady propeller ace ever. This model is 87lbs. Powered by a moki 250 radial. Barry Ps the f84-f flew in top gun in 08 and 10. She was runner up best military. The corsair will compete in 2012 at top gun. Just finished her last year. She won best of show at bomberfield and warbirds over Texas late last year.
Finally started my NH-90 RC with PHT-3 jetcat turbine. First run was to test out whether there is interference from sonic to the HCSX-3 ( Helicommand ) flight stabilizer. All the servos showed no jiggering. The next run was with the blade to check for tracking. The landing gear collapsed and luckily didn't undergo dynamic tip-over. You Tube: RC NH-90 Gear Collapse Gotta think up re: paint scheme. Suggestions/pictures welcomed. Ed
Stunning. Have you considered going with FPV, camera inside the 'cockpit' transmitting to head-mounted video? The technology is just about at the point where I imagine it would be almost like being up in the air. I took a little test flight video of a Force battle heli today. A bit over 5 minutes continuous flying from the stock 125mah LiPo, not bad! For some reason the 150mAH wouldn't turn the props. They were fully charged and worked fine about a week ago, don't know what's up with that but the little 125s worked fine. be sure to click on 720p and full-screen for best quality BTW if you don't know, I usually open these embedded videos in a separate window by clicking on the "YouTube" button, switch to 720p, then let it buffer the video for a minute or two while I read another page, then watch in fullscreen. Sorry if you knew about this... [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SjfPfEY2Gd8[/ame]
I've been enjoying this thread for a quite a while- now time for my questions. I have bought a few cheap RC helicopters, and I've always been less than impressed with their handling and battery life. By the time I start to get the feel, they run out of batteries. What do you all suggest for the best combination of battery life and easy to control? I want to get some of these for family fun around the holidays! Thanks for any advice.
Simply stunning. In particular, the weathering on the Corsair is truly impressive. What techniques did you use to achieve those effects?
The corsair is painted silver first. After the final paint is finished, I go back with scotch brite and steel wool to scratch or rub through the paint where the real plane would show wear. Chalks are used. An airbrush is used too. The rivets are burned in with a modified soldering iron. It now has different sizes of brass tips. This burns different sizes of rivets into the paint. It's quite relaxing to do. You just have to be in the mood. Barry
Which one(s) do you have? Which batteries (heli or tx) are you talking about? Any good, cheap 3-channel heli should fly for well over 5 minutes per charge. Make sure to charge with the included USB, not the TX (will suck down the AA's fast). Use one of these instead of your laptop/PC usb (can damage the USB port): http://www.amazon.com/2-Port-Travel-Charger-Apple-iPhone/dp/B002FFG6JC/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1323888580&sr=8-1 Any of these SYMA 3-channel choppers are great: http://www.amazon.com/Syma-S110G-Infrared-Micro-Helicopter/dp/B005DOK62U/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1323888273&sr=8-1 http://www.amazon.com/Syma-S107-S107G-Helicopter-Yellow/dp/B004A8ZRB0/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1323888173&sr=8-2 http://www.amazon.com/S108G-Infrared-Controlled-Marine-Helicopter/dp/B004IBPQEW/ref=sr_1_1?s=toys-and-games&ie=UTF8&qid=1323888634&sr=1-1 Give the lipo battery and motors in the chopper time to rest/cool between flying and charging and flying again. If you must fly continuously, buy a couple choppers and rotate them. Thanks, they're gooduns! Nice - which one(s)? I like the idea of a large heli, but my backyard is better suited to a micro size. Looking forward to reviews of the upcoming MSRX, a fixed pitch, flybarless mirco with supposedly similar flight charachteristics to the CP MCPX, minus 3D of course. Will wait to see if the first batch has any bugs before buying. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Interesting. I especially like the idea of using chalks. So what is the covering material used? I would assume not regular Monokote type stuff, right? I have seen fiberglass fuselages before, but not wings. Again, great work. I would like to try to attend a Top Gun event one of these days. Do you have any links to videos or your planes in action?
Kurt- What would you recommend as a good "next step" up in the micro-heli world? I feel very comfortable with the coaxial helis, and would like to challenge myself a little more. I am looking at all the different single rotor helis out there and I am mostly just getting more and more confused. What are the pros/cons between fixed pitch and collective pitch designs? What about all the "flybarless" designs out there? What is the purpose of that? I am not too interested in ever doing all the crazy 3D flying stuff, more scale-like operation would be fine with me. I would just like to try something with more speed and responsiveness than the coaxial helis, but not something so twitchy I am going to instantly smash it into a million pieces.

The view from my office. I count 7 aircraft in this picture. There are many more below the cube walls, and a few others in each direction. The production people leave at 3:30pm, and then we have an open parking lot for our use. The p-38 is mine. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Thought I'd share the newest addition to the fleet: an ultra micro Gee Bee R2! 20 inch wingspan, 14 inch length, about 3.5oz flying weight. It is incredibly detailed for such a small foam model, with wheel pants, pilot figure, steerable tail wheel, and even flying wires on the wings. I haven't had a chance to fly it yet, but will report back when I do. It has Horizon's new "AS3X" system, which is an electronic 3 axis gyro stability control system. Supposedly it makes even very unstable designs like the Gee Bee and flybar-less helicopters very easy to control even when modeled in this micro size. this is a 1/3.5 scale bae hawk. she is 12 ft long. i will be flying her at top gun in may. down in florida in case any of you guys are in the area. barry Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Is that going to fit through the door once you get it fully built? And, I don't think that is going to fit in the typical car either. That is some serious r/c modeling you got going on there! .
