CS or 360?

    Trying to decide between the two & having a hard time.

    I am ok with the purchase price difference between the 2, but a bit apprehensive on the cost of maintenance between the 2 - Brakes & rotors, more expensive parts, etc. Is this a big difference? Should I be concerned? How much is it on each car if the F1 transmission fails? How common is this?

    I was thinking prices were around $135k for a nice CS - Red, Factory Stripe, Alcantera interior. Does that sound about right? The few I see on ebay are closer to $150k.

    Other than fleabay, what are the best sources to find the perfect CS? I don't want to end up with a car that has stories.

    While I really like 360's, a CS is really the dream car for me.

    Maintenance is similar for yearly or 2 year service... And the F1 maint is again the same. But brakes and tires and parts in general are quite another thing altogether. Plan on considerably more outlay when it comes to the care & feeding of those bits on a Stradale. You could conceivably go the "life of the car" on the factory Ceramic brakes if you kept a CS as a show piece, but it you use it like God intended than plan on a few extra expenses. I hear they eat tires too, but I consider that a disposable item anyhow.

    My opinion here is that if you dont have "petrol in your veins" (stolen from this video) http://youtu.be/kKKJdRSI-R8 Then find a super nice 360 coupe, buy a set of Challenge Stradale wheels from this gent: www.exoticarauto.com - get a Challenge Grill - get a Tubi - lower the car to proper ride height - count your extra money & enjoy.

    Have you been in or driven both cars? If so, I think you'll find the decision relatively easy... especially if cost isn't a big factor.

    I owned a 360 for a few years and rode in a few CSs... no comparison. The CS is a far more interesting (and rough) car. I think the CS is one of the best looking cars Ferrari has ever made.

    I have been a passenger once in a cs. That is what I want. I love the rawness. I just wouldnt be a happy owner if I was worried about 20k repair bill surprises. I have only owned 80's ferraris and not as familiar in everything that i should know when looking for a cs.

    I was in your shoes a few years ago. The choices I put before me were a 360 or a Gallardo. I drove both and the 'G' was the better performance car.

    While hunting for a 'G', I got to drive a CS. There a CS in my garage now.

    There is no doubt I would prefer a cs. I just dont have an unlimited source of funds and would be interested to know how much to budget each year for maintenance.

    Yellow is cool, but after having 2 fcars which were blue, I have my heart set on a red one this time around.

    I had a 2001 Ferrari 360 Spider and hated it, I had a 360 Challenge car until someone crashed into it, I test drove a Gallardo and was indifferent, and I bought a Challenge Stradale.

    Thanks, I saw that Stokpro is the man from the other CS thread, but wouldn't want to contact him unless I was 100% sure. Also not sure how he feels about being contacted by strangers.

    From the stradale site you posted, I see this one - asking $125k. Anyone know anything about this car?

    As for CS brakes, if the stock cc brakes wear out (won't happen unless you track it), you do have the option to switch to steel, maybe $7.5k rather than $32k for cc (rough numbers).

    Some parts on the CS are MUCH more expensive then the 360. For example, the carbon mirrors are like $10k at Racambi IIRC, so don't knock one off backing into your garage.

    Otherwise, I dont' see why a CS would be that much more to maintain over the long term than a 360. I don't think either will depreciate much, if any. The CS may appreciate a little if it's not driven much (but why in the hell would you want to do that?).

    There is a HUGE markup on price. The CS is a very special machine, but you will pay about 75% premium on a comparable 360. It's up to you to decide if that is worth it based on the available inventory of both.

    If you do decide to go base 360 route, make sure to find one with an upgraded exhaust (tubi, ect) and perhaps even with CS seats! It's much better to buy a 360 already modded than buy a totally stock 360 and pay retail prices for modifications yourself.

    If you have your heart set on the CS, then go for the CS. But if you are worried about maintenance, how about a 430? They are in the ball park at the moment - different experience I'm sure, but something to consider.

    I don't understand the question. Maint costs are the same.

    If something breaks, then "yes" there are some parts on the CS that are more expensive than the cooresponding parts on a regular 360 (brake rotors have been mentioned, carbon trim is another).

    They are dramatically different beasts though...drive them both and then buy the CS like any sensible person would ;-)

    Yes, that is the same conclusion i am hearing here. Outside of brakes, mechanicals seem the same. On a 360, I would try to get a manual which of course isnt available on a cs. Mainly because i dont want to deal with an f1 failure.

    Solid point, but 2 main differences:

    1) I like the rawnrss of the cs, no carpets, etc. Reminds me more of an f40 which i really like. Also like all the alcantera i n the cs.
    2) 430 i beleive still has quite a bit of depreciation left in the next few years.

    I have said this before.

    I love my 360 spider, but it will be the first car in my stable to go. A 430 or California etc would be in the same boat. Great cars, of course, but not long term keepers.

    A CS would be a car I would never want to part with. It is a drivable collector's car. Timeless in beauty and value. I would rather pay more now to get one and keep it long term than replace another Ferrari every 5 years.

    If you're worried about the brakes then stick some steels on for only for a few k and save the carbon ones. They work virtually the same just weigh a bit more.

    I have been thinking about your question more. I like the interior of the 430 more than the 360 and the perfomance is better... I am considering this but would want to wait a year or two to let the depreciation get down a bit more. Sure the 430 is the same price as a cs, but I don't beleive the cs would depreciate as much.

    Hey, we currently have 2 CS' one with 7k and one with 3k. Look in my Sponsor Section and you can see pics of both. Our 3k mile one is now 100% Stock. I do not know where in CA you are but if your close you should stop by!!!

    Good Luck with your decision I just went for my first ride/drive in a CS and I could not be any more happy!
