Love it when I start a nice debate and get some feathers (predictably) ruffled.
Brad: You are 100% correct. Much as us owners of the 4 litre cars would have you believe, the Annivesario will smoke them all on the road. 3-time World Rally Driving Champion Sandro Munari did most of the development testing and that is one handling Countach. Whilst the earlier cars are indeed purer, prettier and therefore nice to look at, once the wheels start to turn, the Annivesario is the boss. Case in point: At the Rockingham Race Circuit in the UK, a Testarossa was tested against an Annivesario. The TR was driven by a gentleman that races it in the Ferrari Classic Championship. It had Pirelli race cut slicks, big 6 pot AP brakes, modified suspension etc.etc. The Annivesario was STANDARD spec. The time for the Testarossa was 1 minute 29.6 seconds, the Countach 1 minute 28.2 seconds. Here is the video. http://video.ultimatestreet.com/video/3624/lamborghini-countach-vs-ferrari-testarossa No standard LP400 or LP400S (except a Wolf car such as 1002) would have made anywhere close to 1:28, or 1:29 for that matter. Of course, this debate can always be settled one way or another
Just about anything Lamborghini is good for me...I drove my LP670-4SV to work today and back and loved it..yesterday I had my LM 002A out, tomorrow, not sure..maybe the Diablo GT..been a while, taking advantage of our RARE dry no rain days of late.. BUT, everyone has their favorite.. Just like having 5 Girl friends..THEY are ALL in your phone with speed Dial...BUT there is ALWAYS one you call first, you just go down the line when the first call is not answered... So to everyone, ENJOY your first CALL(ing) just dont delete the other ones! Happy Holiday's
This is true. But, with the different Counatch variants, they all have their Achilles Heel, and they all have their redeeming features. As the saying goes: you cant be all things to all people.. Here's another: something for everyone.. That's whats cool about the different variants. There is no BEST per se in general terms. Seasons Greetings!
Same case as having five girlfriends but this matter is easier to resolve : Save some money and buy ALL variants of the Countach. LP400, LP400s lowbody, LP5000s, QV DD, Anniversario. Problem solved (Am I a genius or what )
I know at least one man who has solved this problem And I can tell you the 5 cars are far more reliable than 5 girlfriends!!
Have to agree here..so let's see, let me look into the warehouse LP400...Check LP400 S1...Check LP400 S2...Check 1983 5000S Carb...Check 1987 5000QV FI....Check 1988 1/2 DD....Check 1989 Anniv.....missing.. guess I need to go Christmas Shopping
Mission accomplished. Here is a nice video. [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8TWqkPwgHXE&feature=results_main&playnext=1&list=PLFD8274E42EADDE4B[/ame]
It's just a saying I once heard: "Porn. It's cheaper than dating." The LP400 is actually my least favorite Countach in terms of styling. The flares, spoilers, and strakes were the flair that gave the Countach its aggressiveness, in my opinion. But as was stated before, it's all opinion. Chris
I like both variants, and in my mind there are elements of each that I like better than the other. One thing that I have never cared for on the LP400, is the width of the rear tires. They just seem so undersized for the size of the rear end of the Countach. Here is a shot I made of the rear ends of both Roy's LP400 and my '86 5000QV at our weekly Exotics @RTC gathering back in October. I know its all personal preference, I just like the looks of the wider Pirelli's. It seems to fit with the massive rear end of the Countach better. Mike, I do agree about the tires. I saw an LP400 recently, and it's true, the narrow tires just don't look right to me. Chris
Indeed, something for everyone, and how lucky is that? Countach enthusiasts enjoy a production life from which to choose a car that is almost geological when viewed against some of it's peers, with an evolution unmatched among the hyper-cars. Merry Christmas and Happy Hanukkah to you Joe and to all. May 2012 bring a multitude of blessings.
I am happy to see that we are all being respectful of each others opinions instead of bashing them. I rarely see any bashing on this forum, and I am very happy to be a part of Ferrarichat/Lamborghinichat! Happy Holidays to all of you as well! Chris
I have driven my qv about 100 turns on the race track and driven 25th with sport seats, the only difference between QV and 25th in term of road handling is the setting of the suspension and the different tires. QV had Pirelli P7R, 25th had PZero Assimetrico, since P7R don't exist anymore we all use the same now. The suspension was changed in a single way, the toe in on the rear axle was reduced which gives less understeering, I made the same setting on my QV and I can tell you that hardly anybody else with a Countach can follow me on the track, promised The real issue driving a Countach fast are the brakes, the venting is insufficient, they overheat within about 5-8 laps depending on the circuit.
That's what I've heard. Is there any kind of modification that Countach owners often do to fix that problem? Chris
As far as I see it the 25th was not a limited edition. It was the Countach model having the highest production numbers! I realize production reached 657 or 658 cars in total. Happy holidays everyone!
Movit Bremsen has a brake kit for the Countach. http://www.movitbrakes.com/de/bremsanlagen/lamborghini/countach/
Raymond, You probably know Andrej., Valentino's friend, in your country. He knows you. He bought a white QV and we had a long talk about brakes. Very pleasant guy. He had the job done on his car from what he told me. Not cheap, but I guess money is not his concern. I dod beleive it is the brembo break system he had installed but if you want the best...
