For judging the books, tools and standard valve stem caps are a 'must have'....the manuals vary by year (or every several years) and the part number shown in that one description matches the year of issue.

 

What manual do I need? *04022* May of 1972.

Poop...the one I have had a yellow color (bad shape anyhow) It does have good info so it is in my safe. I really hate to have to pay $500 USD for a copy. I'll have to keep looking as I want to get my car back to as original condition as possible.

 

Which pouch is correct for red manual? Blue manual?

The blue book goes with the pouch with the rounded corners. The Red book goes with the pouch with the squared off corners.

Or at least for the most part, that is where you usually see them. It is exactly an exact science.

There are a lot of little things that go into a concours presentation beyond making the car right, but here are a couple of items that have cost other Dino owners that I've judged in the past.

1. Valve stem caps . no little horsies on them, please.
2. License plate frame. Car left the factory with one, you should have one on your car.
3. No floor mats. No such thing as factory floor mats for a Dino
4. Correct size tires. Brand is not important, but size is. Michelin or Sumitomo doesn't matter as long as they are factory size.
5. Cap on the jack. Yup, the plastic/rubberized cap on the jack can be a tie breaker, as can many, many other small bits and pieces when you're fighting someone else for anything other than a platinum. Remember, all the cars 95 and over get a platinum, but there's only one gold and silver car per class.


6. Lights that don't work, or not knowing how to make something on the car work. When a judge asks you to turn on the headlights, or turn signals, or wipers, or whatever, it's important to know how to do that. Don't laugh, I had a Dino guy not know how to work his headlights once.
7. Contents of the pouch. Have the big items. Reproductions are ok, if you don't have the warranty card, that's not gonna be a deduction. IF you don't have the pouch, it is.
8. Geez, as I stare at this, I realize there are a million little things. Best way to approach it, in my mind, would be to get an FCA judge to do a walk around of your car and make a list. Also, many of the guys who show here at FCA events could probably do that for you too.

Dave, I am glad you bought this up!..........mine has never been there and i have just had the jack yellow powder coated (oops there goes my 95 point) Where is this obtainable please?

dave, i disagree with the license plate frame requirement. different countries have different plate sizes. i believe ferrari purposefully left off frames for this reason. the dealers drilled holes for their personalized dealership plates. i would think no frame or dealership frame would/should be acceptable. i've also heard that ferrari included a frame in the trunk to be installed by the dealer, but again, the dealer put their own plate frame on.

Ed, as I recall the 246GT and GTS were the last Ferraris that came with factory license plate frames.

Cars newer than that get a deduction IF they have a frame.

I'll check the parts book, but I'm fairly certain I'm right. Yup, it's in the parts book.

I believe that the frame supplied with U.S. Dinos is the same as the one that came on U.S.-spec. Daytonas. It's flat, chrome plated, and is not morticed. Fred

 

Dealer frame on any Ferrari at concours will cost you a point. Not a factory option, a dealer add-on.

Interestingly, the cars didsn't ship with a radio, but did ship with grills in the doors for speakers, and a DIN space for a radio. A period correct radio in that spot is not a deduction, even though it's not a factory installation.

I'm not sure, but I think late 308-328's were the first Ferraris to ship with a radio.

for dinos i did not know they were installed at factory. for daytonas, the frames came in the trunk or tool kit box with pouch. and then added on by dealer. they either installed the factory frame or dealer frame. uncertainty, that's why ed gilbertson has said no deducts for license plate frames.

Dino's came from the factory with a box to contain many ancillary items. One of those item was "Set of Frames for Registration Plates". US Dino's had US sized plate frames......

Same as Daytona and same as all Ferrari's of that era.

 

Can only go by what I was told to do at the FCA events that I judged. Phil Tetgmeier (sp?) was the head judge and keeper of all things Ferrari. We were instructed to deduct for any kind of license plate frame on anything newer than an early 70's car (don't recall which one) and were specifically told that Dinos came with a frame. ANY car with ANY frame from a dealer was a no no.

I disagree
I have NEVER been given those instructions in any judging briefings or at the IAC/PFA presevation meetings that i have attended annually.

USA cars should have license frames, illustrated in parts manual.
I deduct for missing parts.
