Just dawned on me ,I don't think there is.Anyone think of any?Apart from the couple of steel bodied SWB's. Any other collectable marque and we have world class cars in Australia.
Our "world class" cars were sold back overseas decades ago. Thanks to our tax system they don't come back.
It seems to me that many serious OZ collectors have world class cars, but most ignore Ferrari. Why? Been a number of multi-million dollar cars come into OZ in the last 18 months, how many Ferrari cars?
Not sure what you mean by "world class" - I'd have thought that a SWB was world class. Isn't there a 375 D/H somewhere in the west? and there is a California Spider in Sydney - though I haven't seen it for years. Then of course there is/was the TR replica - though maybe that should be "world crass". Isn't a F40LM world class collectible?
My idea of world class is a car that gets an invite to Goodwood and of the great retro car show in Europe. I exclude the Americans due to there over restored idea's.Example would be veteran Silver Ghosts, the Americans on the whole over restore them, have little idea on the mechanics, enjoy fitting modern bits ie alternators, modern fuel pumps, battery, non period 4 wheel brakes and wrong carby. Wonder if there like that with early Ferrari cars?
There is a collector here in Brisbane with some very valuable Ferraris and Porsches amongst other marques. Has an F40, a 959 and an XJ220. In all, over 200 cars so I am told. Over 70 rare and historic Porsches. Not sure if is a member here or not, but regularly travels to Pebble Beach, Goodwood and perhaps other shows and usually has some of his cars freighted from here to the show.
That's a pretty fair definition - agree with the over restoration thing - I've seen a couple of Alfas that were cringeworthy. Some of the Lotus FF's that I looked at were over restored to the extent of not being safe enough to race.
You are right, but I am not sure what else he has. He is doing much better than most. That's for sure.
has got wonderful collection including race Porkers ,Brabhams and lotus race cars,no try-hard there, but any Ferrari cars of note?
Don't like to ask, but I know someone who has seen the collection. I will ask him next time I see him.
